Malonemagic John O'Mahoney, you serious ?,

Was thinking the same - if you include JOM you must include John Allen - neither compare to Cody.

Micko - definitely up there with him. What he achieved with Kerry between 1979-1986 is on a par with Cody and Kilkenny from 2006-2015. One factor in Micko's favour is the lack of 'back doors' but looking at Cody's record, only 2012 was delivered without a Leinster title as far as I recall.

Cody still slightly ahead in my opinion.

Malonemagic were Laois happy with just wining a leinster title they under achieved big time with that team they won three minor titles all Irelands 1996, 1997,2003, Dwyer couldn't get over the attidude of the players.

"Kevin Heffernan, Mick O'Dwyer, Sean Boylan, Mickey Harte are also contenders for various reasons."

But the best thing you said about Cody was that he was "up there in hurling terms", yet you haven't named a single hurling manager in your list (I realise Boylan managed hurling teams
in Meath but for the purposes of this debate I assume he's on your list for his football exploits with Meath). So who's a better hurling manager than him?

Canon Bertie Troy's record in hurling stands up to anyone. His record across minor, U21 and senior is comparable by no manager even Cody. So debate that one

Cyril Farrell should get a mention also considering his success with Galway who haven't won much in terms of AIs before or since he was manager at senior level.
O Dwyer would still probably be the number one though considering his longevity, success and contribution to other counties. With Kildare( AI final )Laois ( Leinster Title) Wicklow ( First championship victory ) and involved with Clare also for a while after his time with Kerry.
Cody has unprecedented success with Kk though which will probably never be equalled and will go down as a great manager.

I'd heard the man's name before, but my memory had linked him to one all-Ireland with cork for some reason. Had to google this:

6 Munster Minor titles in a row 66-71, 4 All-Irelands.
4 Munster U21 & 4 All-Ireland U21 titles in a row 68-71
5 Munster Seniors in a row 75-79 (75 as joint Manager with Justin McCarthy), 3 senior All-Ireland's in a row 76-78

So 15 Munster titles and 11 All-Irelands. One word - WOW!

Bull, you have thrown a substantial argument into this debate. Fair play to you.

John O Mahony and Mick O dwyer have a great record of improving teams they take over.

Brian Coady & Mick O'Dwyer (both blessed with natural born talent)

Sean Boylan wasn't as fortunate as the above but still achieved greatly.

Kevin Heffernan for reinventing Dublin and gaelic football in general.

Mickey Harte created a great Tyrone side.

My top men anyway.

That Cannon chap managed teams to All Irelands back in the day when the Cork public cared as much about hurling as they do in KK and winning hurling matches was as easy as breathing to them. Nowadays arguably the county in terms of sporting interests is at least half "rugby country" and the passion isnt quite as strong throughout the county.

As regards Rosenstock's programme, it is absolute rubbish. Seems to be trying to be aiming for the formula of Mrs Browns Boys for success. Watched most of one programme and will never watch it again.
