I was referring to his claim re Cody being best GAA manager.

The post is a bit of craic, BUT on a serious note, Cody is definetly the greatest Hurling manager of ther modern era.

Back in 1998 when Cody took over Kilkenny were nothing like the machine they are now. Cody is the main driving force behind what Kilkenny have become. When the great Kerry team of the seventies and eighties broke up Kerry went eleven years without an All Ireland. When the great Dublin team of the seventies broke up Dublin only won two All Irelands between 1977 and 2011. None of the Kilkenny team from 2000 are still playing. What did Cody do after the greatest team of all time broke up? He created another one and they kept on winning. He is the greatest manager of all time in either hurling or football.

I'll paraphrase Vincent Hogan, "if there's been a greater manager than Cody, they certainly haven't ordained that fact in statistics."

I think slly is actually a better comedian than Rosenstock.

As I mentioned earlier I think this is debatable as there are a few who would have to be considered also.
My point was that Cody probably had at least half of the greatest players ever to play the game if you were to put a best 15 together to choose from. That's not a bad place to start if you are looking to build a legacy as undoubtedly that group have.
Kevin Heffernan,Mick O Dwyer,Sean Boylan,Mickey Harte are also contenders for various reasons.

Silly is correct - it is debatable.

But looking at the stats and standard set I find it hard to see anyone better than Cody. I'll add that the impression I get from afar is that Ned Quinn has been of huge benefit to Brian Cody also, putting in place a system of getting players through to the Senior Inter County team that has reaped great rewards.

Other Managers have achieved great things like breakthroughs with counties starved of success, eg Dermot Healy, Cyril Farrell, Babs Keating and some have won things with more than one county - eg John Allen, but none match Cody for repeated success, style, goal-scoring, ferocity.

He's the best.

Cody is the greatest ever. Kilkenny has got a population of 100000 which is not near that of Cork, Dublin, Tipp or Galway. Yes of course there is great talent in the county and they dont play any other sport let alone football, so you would have to say that he has reached a level of consistency that is way above any other manager of kilkenny in the past.

But the best thing you said about Cody was that he was "up there in hurling terms", yet you haven't named a single hurling manager in your list (I realise Boylan managed hurling teams in Meath but for the purposes of this debate I assume he's on your list for his football exploits with Meath). So who's a better hurling manager than him?

Well, now that you've confined your claim to hurling you probably have a better case. Interesting how you conveniently choose to forget that initially you stated that he was the greatest GAA manager. Mabye GAA is confined to hurling in Kilkenny but there is a world beyond the small ball code.
Nothing against Cody whatsoever and simply find your claim and attempt at discrediting any debate about other managers claim to that accolade a bit arrogant.

Cody is top class. BUT.... I still believe he is a level below Mick o Dwyer and John o Mahoney because of their ability to achieve in more than one county. What micko did with laois and o Mahoney with Galway and leitrim is a step above
