Slayer don't forget the great Tommy Walsh . Greengrass (Louth) - Posts: 6031 - 23/11/2015 11:15:52 1809182 Link 0 |
But cuede, he was the cog that kept the offaly forwards whirring in their heyday, between 94 and 97. He was involved in a lot if their scores, and created scores by doing things that noone before (I suppose!) or since could do. Definitely a unique hurler, which you wouldn't say for most if the others mentioned. After 97, he wasn't as good, it was more flashes of genius than consistency, and could be anonymous for long stretches. Still though, those flashes were worth having him there. If you wouldn't have him in the top 20 most skillful hurlers(as opposed to most effective) you might have missed a lot of hurling in the 90s flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 23/11/2015 12:38:46 1809218 Link 0 |

Cue I have seen 46 All Ireland senior hurling finals including replays,. John Troy was highly skilled . He could also think very quickly and use his skill as the game demanded. Greengrass (Louth) - Posts: 6031 - 23/11/2015 16:23:36 1809287 Link 0 |
Very impressive greengrass. You obviously love the game also.I'm not denying J Troy wasn't skillfull. He certainly was.I got sidetracked thinking about his overall game, which was inferior to quite a lot of other skillfull hurlers.Just my opinion.I will post my best 15 hurlers, that i've seen in my life going to games, later on. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 23/11/2015 16:35:18 1809291 Link 0 |

I think we're singing from the same hymnsheet cue, troys overall game had its flaws in his 'later' years (he was young still) but he was the perfect centre forward up till then, although a lot wouldn't have got noticed in the pre-live game era, because he created rather than ran up big scores. His battles with some the best centre backs of the time (ger hegarty in AI 95, liam Dunne in lf 96, Brian Corcoran in AI sf 99) were immense and hugely enjoyable. One player he never got to grips with was seanie McMahon, who was a better all-round hurler, although not as skillful as troy flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 23/11/2015 17:57:00 1809322 Link 0 |
