Kerry- sore losers

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Donoughy is caught in a viscous circle of negative attention. He gives it and gets it in one match. He gets it and gives it in another. Some games he gets booked, others he does not. It is not a conspiracy against him, it is rather a bizarre law of averages that is unique to GAA refereeing that allows this to happen. I have seen him being dragged around the place, the same way Colin Corckery of Cork used to be in almost every game he played in and get nothing. I also have seen him do things on the pitch (national league in Tralee case in example), without getting any sanction at all.

I'm surprised Fitzmaurice wasn't warned over his choice of wording in criticising the referee. Carlow manager Turlogh O'Brien got a 3 month suspension earlier in year for comments about a referee.

We're all sore losers, some of us just don't like to admit it.

I think Fitzmaurice's post match comments, though he made a mistake in his choice of words, were actually very clever in a way.

Donaghy maybe should have had a penalty, I thought so from my seat but haven't seen a conclusive replay yet. Besides that though he did very well off the referee during the game. He got one very handy free in the first half and was involved in a lot of off the ball stuff.

Instead of the focus being on this, Donaghy is now being portrayed as some sort of innocent victim after the game! You gotta hand it to Fitzmaurice alright!

Let's leave, the media gerrymandering to those who feel they need the extra edge or apply pressure of the pitch. I see T O Se, for the want of better words said Dublin do the scumbag side of the game well. Nice, I can't remember when we were getting beating by Kerry did we accept being not good enough and maintain our dignity or did we result to insults, or putting pressure on refs through the media.

Leave the indignity to those hurting, we will see you on the pitch where we do our best work.

I think we all know what O Se meant. His choice of words was poor, but every intercounty team has certain individuals who relish having an edge to a game. It could be argued that it's nearly a necessity to have such players to win an All-Ireland. Tyrone had them in the 00s, as did Kerry and Dublin have them too.

Have to say the dubs got their arses kicked by Kerry for long enough. In that time I don't remember too much from Dublin slagging off Kerry, a little disapointing. Kerry not taking their beatings too well.

Of course mate, the point isn't in question from a footballing perspective, rather how he illustrates it in reference to Dublin. He's not naive and knows the use it the word will be the headline. Seems like a concerted systemic approach by Kerry after the "rape and pillage" remarks to get a leg up on referee calls, before the championship. Have to say I find the whole thing ironic, Kerry were the most cynical and mean spirted team I've seen Coke Park so far this year and clearly Dublin have one of the most attractive footballing playing styles and philosophys in the country. Maybe it's a poor us, smoke screen to take the heat of back home, trigger a bit of a seige spirit, but the hurt in pallitable.

We will see them on the pitch, they can have oxygen and papers.

TheUsername if you read the full statement you would have seen that Tomas O Se has nothing but admiration for Dublin. It was fairly obvious what he really meant. The Sunday Game had their official media opening of the new season and it was obvious he was asked a question solely on Dublin.

The irony of Fitzmaurice talking about Donaghy given the way Kerry treated Michael Murphy both in the All-Ireland final of 2014 and league game of this year, it's fairly nauseating.

I have to say I was very disappointed by O Se's comment on Dublin.A freudian slip on his part? I would have expected him to choose his words more carefully.
Of course Kerry have their fair share of sore losers but so does every county.

Poor choice of words? O'Se knew damn well what he was saying.... the irony is it's an "element" of the game Kerry are far from lacking.

I think people know what Tomas meant and he'd include himself in the list of Kerry 'scumbags' of the last decade.
Not a great word to pick, but if you think he meant otherwise then you're looking for an excuse to get on your high horse

Particularly poor piece of "journalism" from Tomas O Sé but then you only have to look at Darraghs & Paidis articles in the past, they all had a slant. I do recall a particular incident in a Kerry & Limerick C'ship game where a particular Kerry player committed one of the cheapest shots you will see on a field to John Galvin, which denied Limerick the chance of making history that day. Yeah scumbags throw cheap shots, pot kettle & black spring to mind looking back at some incidents over the years. But yerrah he is getting paid for writing !

The treatment of Stephen Kelly in 2010 in the Munster Final in Killarney also comes to mind. Tomas was suspended after the game for his carry on that day.

It wasn't an article, it was a radio piece and was an off the cuff remark
