More clubs, one of the largest playing populations

Dual county

All codes at all levels represented at a high Inter County level

Larger population - which includes very many country people availing of said funding

Lots more moving parts to fund

Is the population of Dublin higher than the population of Connacht?

Why would Dublin hand anything back when we're very much not like everyone else

Sure getting the same funding as everyone else just wouldn't make sense....

If that was the case we'd be grossly under funded and that would be to the detriment of everyone

With Dublin GAA being the greatest contributor to the central fund

jimbodub - Dont be loosing any sleep over the debts on MacHale Park. The CB already have a deal with Croke Park on repayments. Everyone in Mayo know's the stand is too big. It was built just as the Celtic Tiger was coming to an end. Sign of the times as they say.

Yes by a good bit. In 50 years I think we could see major changes on the GAA landscape. Some counties will merge. Other may be split. Dublin will have well over 2 million people by then living in the county.

Very true YT

All the predictions are showing that to be a realistic figure in Dublin's case

There will be entire new towns in Dublin with large populations

Many green field sites surrounding the M50 are already being fought over... Dublin city will spread

Jimbo you mightn't appreciate this as I know those AIG bucks remove you slightly from us Plain People of Ireland (living off CAP grants, voting for shady ex-FF Independents and paying for Group Water Schemes for years) but paying the training bills for your marquee team is an investment.

Tipperary, Mayo, Donegal, Galway, Cork probably Tyrone as well...

The sums just won't go if their teams aren't reaching All Ireland semi's in whatever code on a regular basis. That's what makes them attractive to sponsors, keeps fans buying season tickets, shifts the jersey's off the shelves, keeps them coming through the gates for National League games, keeps people paying in to Friends of Tipperary, Cairde Mhaigh Eo, Club Tyrone and the various "ex-pats" in Dublin type societies, keep local businessmen and local doo-gooders with a bit of cash interested.

I actually think I heard Mike Finnerty saying this on Second Captain around the time of the heave in Mayo- they need to be in Croke Park nearly every August to have the income to service those debts you mention.

Another post that references Inter County management teams being renumerated. So much for being an amateur organisation. Payment of managers/coaches at club level is a cancer that is killing the club scene. Most of these people are transient from club to club and are generally unsuccessful, moving on and leaving nothing but debt and recrimination behind. A lot of clubs have lost fantastic fundraising volunteers who leave as they are disillusioned that the hard earned funds raised are being paid out to guys who mostly don't care about the club, they are in it for the cash. It is a disgrace that the GAA bury their head in the sand in relation to this, but whats new, no real leadership or standards. I can't understand how a man with a very top class job as reported on this site needs to be renumerated. Yes mileage & phone expenses should be paid. It was sickening to listen to the hypocrisy of some ex GAA inter county managers slating John Delaney's conduct and salary recently (yes he is overpaid) when people on the ground know what they themselves were up to. In my opinion the Revenue should be called in to investigate this scene. Personally I know one man with a fantastic job and salary who is training two teams and being paid very well for both & not declaring any of this extra income. We have thousands of fine young GAA people unemployed and emigrating who could be assisted in some way by both the State and the GAA to help at these roles. Eventually this elephant in the room will be uncovered but it is already too late in many clubs where lifetime volunteers have left forever over this SHAM.

500,000 per year is apparently the current cost of MacHale park and with interest rates so high it will be about 20 years before it's paid off. I'm sure the Mayo county board would prefer to have that type of cash spent on their county teams.

Mr-Pundit - Interest rates have never been so low.
