Really good game. Lot of good players Aidan O Shea, Brennan, Brogan and Morgan in particular. tyroneed (Tyrone) - Posts: 753 - 21/11/2015 21:29:04 1808927 Link 0 |
Tyroneed, I think you're right regarding the kickout but due to the fact we play some games in gale force conditions we could maybe make it 30/35 mts. ponga (Mayo) - Posts: 649 - 21/11/2015 21:45:39 1808931 Link 0 |
Thought Gary Brennan and Michael Quinn were both brilliant last night, 2 lads that haven even playing division 4 football in then ast few years, seeing lads like that giving their all form their country playing on the biggest stage they'll ever get to play on is more than enough for me to keep it going. What a performance by Aidan O Shea, standout player of the year in GAA and now the international too. bryanadams (Kildare) - Posts: 733 - 22/11/2015 10:41:54 1808946 Link 0 |
A very enjoyable encounter last night in front of almost 40k people on a bitterly cold night. Rumours of the series demise have been greatly exaggerated. Last year's game in Australia was excellent too, I think they've really got the rules sorted out and it makes for a good game. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13709 - 22/11/2015 10:45:09 1808947 Link 0 |
I watched last quarter after the football.Fair play to the lads, but i always get the feeling, the powers to be are praying for a close game to justify its existance. In this regard everyone will be satisfied with last nights game.I suppose the Aussies are to be commended for sending over a strong team of Ozzie All Stars.A big problem with this game was that wasn't usually the case.Good to see all county rivalries put aside for the night.Im not a fan,and its still a couple of hammerings away from further debate, but there are some positives to be gained i guess. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 22/11/2015 11:01:42 1808950 Link 0 |
At least one great bit of high fielding by Aiden O Shea , the GAA should use this to show how the game should be played. Could anyone put up a video clip of it, just like Mick O Connell at his best culmore (None) - Posts: 1398 - 22/11/2015 12:56:08 1808966 Link 0 |

Rules matches are no big deals really imo. Basically they give the amateur GAA players a chance to represent Ireland, which is nice for them. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2519 - 22/11/2015 14:59:37 1808990 Link 0 |
I totally agree, O'Shea was class and it was great to see a bit of high fielding. When you look at the sideline and see Ó Sé and Ealrey it all makes sense! Count_Awesome (Kildare) - Posts: 736 - 22/11/2015 15:03:21 1808994 Link 0 |
pity our own Managers and teams would not bring back the high fielding now after watching that, much better than the Donegal hand passing game, maybe a few rule changes to help the catch and kick game. culmore (None) - Posts: 1398 - 22/11/2015 15:32:14 1808999 Link 0 |
I enjoyed the game played a very good pace, passing especially long balls was mostly accurate some great fielding and fantastic scores connelly in first period scored a great score with outside of foot but score of the game was hughes score with a great catch then sold a dummy and scored from 40 yards out with outside of foot class score. Thoroughly enjoyed the game last night. Great to see some of our top players pitted against the Aussie professionals. Overall we might have just deserved the victory. It took the aussies a little while to get up to speed with the oval ball but when they did it became a very tight game.I think our ability to take goals was the difference. They were a little wayward in front of the posts. Our inside forward line ran riot in the first half. Some of the scores taken by brogan and McManus oozed class but the space affordedn to them at times was unreal. The game reinforced my opinion on Aidan O Shea. He can be a beast at times bit he seems to get slightly over confident at times and starts soloing around in circles to the detriment of the team. Brennan from Clare fetched one or two great balls. Morgan had a good game in goals. Backs at times seemed to struggle with the aussies size and physicality but never gave in. Diarmuid Connolly floated in and out of the game. Some of his passes inside were unreal but then he seemed to get carried away with looking for the hail Mary ball towards the end of the game. There seems to be an appetite again for the series. I think reduced prices and maybe two games would be the way to go. Obviously the debate about where it fits in to the calender for both countries still exist. Possibly our game could learn one or two things from the hybrid game. I like the idea of the four quarries. The two refs seems to work. Not so sure if the mark would be a good or bad thing, maybe for clean catches from kick outs. Overall a great nights entertainment, decent crowd and a positive result for the amateurs against their professional counterparts. On a side why can people not come into games on time. The amount of late arrivals when the game had commenced was unreal. Disrupted the view for the first 5 minutes. Annoying enough for adults that are there on time but makes it worse when young children are with you. Adamski (Dublin) - Posts: 339 - 22/11/2015 17:29:06 1809033 Link 0 |
Reasonably good game but the Aussies are so obviously uncomfortable with the round ball and with the whole concept of scoring goals its hard to take it too seriously. Condorman (Dublin) - Posts: 983 - 22/11/2015 18:34:45 1809048 Link 0 |
Really impressed with Aidan O'Shea and Gary Brennan. For Gary Brennan, this is a great tournament to be involved in. As was evident last night, he is as good as anybody. He comes from (or at least plays with) Ballyea and he is also a top class hurler. His county have four All-Irelands (U21/senior) in hurling this decade. He is not going to spending as much time playing football as others. Even if he wanted to, his club will have a lot of hurling fixtures to fulfil. That pretty much goes for most footballers in his county. As a result they operate from Division 3. But over the last few weeks he trained with lads from Dublin, Mayo etc and it showed. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 22/11/2015 18:50:18 1809055 Link 0 |
Michael Quinn did a few comical things. Maybe tries to hard to be the hero, same when playing for Longford. A good player nonetheless. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 22/11/2015 19:37:26 1809072 Link 0 |

No doubt if there was an oval ball in play we would have been well beaten at the end. The whole concept of using the round ball was to level the playing field, as they're players were much bigger and stronger than ours, but now that has evened out a fair bit, there was no Irish lads being pushed or swung around last night like in days gone by, I think we have an unfair advantage at this stage and this makes the game/sport unacceptable to me at least.
