Aidan O'Shea - POTY.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Mc Caffrey won the All Ireland, O Shea didn't.. Mc Caffrey had 3 good games in semis and Final, O Shea was anonymous for Semis..
I am not saying Mc Caffrey should get it but he is ahead of O Shea. The fact this thread is even here is laughable.. There are 10 other players that had better years than O Shea and no threads for them

And who did mccaffrey stand out against? Fermanagh? You are correct regarding o'shea, but the same applies to mccaffrey this year, who was under pressure in both semis and wasn't really in the final. So how can you dismiss o'shea, yet accept mccaffrey as the most probable winner?

You do realise Fermanagh are a division 2 team Master? Beat the Rossie (Division 1 team) and westmeath by 9 points. Only 4 less than the Dubs. Also the side that totalled the highest score against the Dubs this year in all competitions. Now don't be so disrespectful to a smaller county who performed exceptional in this years championship and league.

I agree that POTY is not just won in August and September but it's a big deal towards it. O Shea had two fantastic games but Sligo are a Division 3 team otherwise he had a very good game against Donegal who aren't the same team since Jimmy left

Jack McCaffrey played very well in the Semi Finals and for the final he had been sick in days prior to the final, despite that he put in a great performance and made many runs during the game, he scored a point and was fouled on another occasion which resulted in an easy tap over. For a half back to be directly involved in two points was a huge contribution considering Dublin only scored 12 points but Jack McCaffrey will get footballer of the year for the outstanding football he played throughout the year in both the League and the Championship. Is peileadóir den scoth é.

Jack was consistently good in all Dublin games hence why he is nominated. unlike Aidan O Se jack performed when the stands were full in Croke Park there is a big difference in performing in Hyde Park and a full Croke Park. I rate Aidan O Se highly but to say he deserves POTY is ludicrous how in God's name can a player get POTY when he failed to produce in the two biggest games.

Take that up with the Galway poster that started this daft thread.

Sorry but that just isn't true. He was marking Diarmuid O'Connor who was a massive threat for mayo in both games and got on an ocean of ball. Those performances probably cemented his YPOTY position so how could mccaffrey, who was supposed to be marking him, have had good games? He was on the back foot and was under pressure - no shame in that by the way, sometimes your man gets a run on you, but what you are stating is simply not accurate. As for making runs and getting fouled, well again, AOS done that more than anyone else in the entire championship, he had a hand in about 10 scores for mayo in the first semi alone - and again, nobody is using that criteria to say he had a good game. Im not suggesting AOS for POTY at all, I just find these double standards to be interesting.

Well you see, I don't say he deserves poty, so clearly you aren't even reading what is being said. Secondly, I am questioning what you have indicated about him being consistently good, as he actually performed quite similarly to O'Shea if you actually compare individual performances, and ignore whether their team won or not. So if it is accepted that AOS didn't perform in the semis, then the same has to go for mccaffrey. Therefore, how can he have been consistently good? Ciaran Kilkenny should probably get it ahead of him.

Aidan is a quality player no doubt but probably not deserving of player of the year this season.

Same thing happened in 2013. He was brilliant early summer and there was a lot of talk that he was going to get POTY but he tailed off towards the end of the season.

He had 2 big games in him this year. The conaught final and the quarters against donegal. He was fairly quiet until McGee broke his ribs then he got a goal etc.
I would say that he is not the best player in the country this year. I thought kilkenny was exceptional. I also thought that There were others on the dublin team that were very good too, but there you go, 3 dublin players are nominated.

To be fair Aidan embarrassed McGee and his little helpers in the quarter final, but The Ballymun man put him in his place after that.

Mayo football on its own is fine, its you and your neverending posts regarding Mayo which has most posters on here tired, judging by a lot of their replies...

I wouldn't agree with O Connor winning the head to head battle with Jack either. Although O'Connor was good I think Jack was the more influential in the replay when needed. O Connor probably won the battle in the second half of the first game. Jack also had a good final against Walsh who plenty of people were talking about as a cert for an All Star. I know we can't talk about Aidan O Se and his performance in the final because Mayo didn't get there. I think the rose tinted glassed should be removed and Mayo should start think on 2016. I wouldn't even give O Se an All Star let alone POTY.

Jack McCaffrey played great football from February to September and that is the reason he will get the award of footballer of the year. When Jack McCaffrey makes a solo run, he does it from the half back line and not from the full forward line, he carves open defenses with his blistering pace and sometimes he scores himself, other times he is laying it off to a colleague to do the scoring. In fairness to Dublin they play good football throughout the year, they are competing throughout the year and nobody has exemplified that better than Jack McCaffrey. Many All-Ireland champions in the past did not do that and that is to Dublin's credit. So as League winners and All-Ireland champions, it is easy to understand why Dublin have three nominations for footballer of the year. Ciarán Kilkenny could also have been nominated.
Aidan O'Shea is a powerful footballer and deserves an All-Star this year and hopefully Mayo will soon win that elusive All-Ireland.

Did not look like a poty in the Mayo county final today, in fact looked all of what I always said he is, very average player.

Yeah Jack has had a great year - very consistent and his contributions from half back was a pleasure to watch

A fantastic talent

The 3 players selected deserve to be there

A clean sweep of Dublin players is appropriate considering the year the team had

Winning all competitions on offer to them

Just a pity for Fenton

Who is just that little too old for YPOTY

IMO He would have won - huge debut season and never looked out of place and excelled

Heavily involved in many season defining moments for Dublin

The opening score in the AI final was just sheer class

This young man has it all, and will go onto be one of the best midfielders in the game
