Not sure I agree with the assumption that Dublin would have built up a big score against Kerry a few weeks ago had the day been dry. I think some of Kerry's awful mistakes/slipping/bad passes were down to the weather. Don't forget they had an absolutely straight shot on goal but for a slip towards the end of the game. Don't get me wrong, I don't think for one second they deserved to win/draw that game. They were comprehensively beaten but I don't agree that it is a given that Dublin would have tapped over the scores in dry weather and Kerry not. For all of their superiority, you would have to ask why was the margin only 3 points in the dying minutes making it very nervous viewing from a Dublin point of view. They should've been out of sight but were not...so a poor Kerry performance was able to stay within respectable distance of a vastly superior Dublin

JmcG said Dublin were very unlucky with players slipping at vital moments and had it been a dry day the game would have been over as a contest very early on.
I would have to agree with that. Although it's not a given , I think highly probable.

The 1989 Connaught Final Replay. If this game was played in any other province it would have rated one of the all time great games. The game swung back and forth went extra time. Tony McManus scored a penalty in extra time. Roscommon were 4 points up with 4 minutes to go and Fat Larry, Jimmy Burke scrambled 2 goals and Michael Fitzmaurice hit a point for Mayo 4 point win. This team went onto compete in a great All Ireland Final coming up just short against Cork. How great it was to see Willie Joe play in an All Ireland.

1996 All Ireland semi final. My Dad brought me as a 10 year old on my first trip to Croke Park. The excitment, the trip up on the train. Everyone in hope.
Mayo beat Kerry and beat them well. I still remember the singing on the train on the way home. Great day and memory. Sadly our record v Kerry since has been horrible.

July 22nd 2006. Listening to the game in the USA as Cork & Limerick battled it out in the 1/4 final. Cork got a penalty & Diarmuid O'Sullivan came forward to take it with a supposed 'cork' ball in his togs. By the time he got to our 21 he had been 'met' by most of the Limerick team. There was debate as to whether he would hit the placed ball at all. He did & no goal was conceded. Cork won 0-19 to 0-18, beat Waterford 1-16 to 1-15 and then lost to Kilkenny 1-16 to 1-13.

Diarmuid O'Sullivan had steamrollered Jack Foley in 2001 before scoring a point from his own 21. In a NHL game in 2002 in the Gaelic Grounds, he had been unfortunate to lie on a ball as two Limerick lads came upon the scene and carnage ensued. In June 2002 he scored another long range point against us.

The 2006 incident was the last in a long line of battles we had with him. As Ronan Curran mentioned in his autobiography, whenever Cork prepared for Limerick they'd have the tackle bags out and they'd be expecting a fierce battle. Some of those Limerick v Cork clashes over the years have been savage to watch.

In addition to a number of matches, yesterday at my house was most memorable. My wife gave birth to twin boys 4 months ago. Yesterday there was a little get together here with friends and family. My friend who watches the matches with me on GAAGO bought Roscommon and Kerry jerseys for the lads. They were very cute in their O'Neill jerseys. Then their grandfathers held them for some photos. The Kerry grandfather held my son wearing the Kerry shirt and the Roscommon grandfather held the my son in the Roscommon shirt. Their grandfathers were proud of their little fellas and the boys look very cute in their colors!

I Remember the 2011 Dublin v Donegal match that ended 8 pts to 6 for Dublin. It was one of those occasions that will remain a landmark in terms of how the Donegal team set up. They had not developed the defend and attack strategy to any great extent and relied pretty much on stopping the other team from scoring.Dublin managed to grind out a two point victory and the relief was what I remember most considering the tactics employed to stop them. Donegal realised they need something more to have any chance of wining and went on to develope a more potent form of the strategy employed that day but it was terrible to be there and see it in it's infancy.

Good luck with the nippers mikeyjoe, you'll have your hands full for a while so.They might experience varying degrees of success depending on who they end up supporting ;-)

Yes Tree, you're only a buckeen!

Nestor and Casey were class that day. Nallen was also class and was class for years after that.

There was a Kerryman sitting beside me telling me that one of the Kerry forwards was the 'shmallest' intercounty player in the country. I forget his surname but his first name was Gene and yer man kept roaring 'Gwan genius' everytime that Gene got the ball. Up until 10 minutes left when he got up off his seat and left. He never even said goodbye!
