Funny about the Meath lads checking their passport. Must not be too sure if they are Irish or not --- maybe they are Plastic Paddies

Just watched the anthem on rwc and the crowd and players belted out Ireland call. Maybe a good compromise,

Ireland's call is a poor lousy dirge of a ballad a rubbish thing. If your going to commission an Anthem and do it properly and not have a truly silly song forced on a nation just to please a rugby fans. The vast majority of the people on this island do not play sport and don't use that as any kind of measure of their culture and lives. So sod Ireland's call and all who sing it, if we all are expected to stand united under a flag and an anthem it should be one agreed by the vast majority of people.

Royaldunne I think we get the point at this stage, you don't give a damn about your national anthem. But your constant harping on about it and bickering with others on here about their nationality just shows you up as being insecure or ignorant about this topic. Sensible debate seems to be long gone at this stage!

I agree arock that its a shocking song, and is actually worse than the anthem itself.

I agree with arock. Ireland's call is a load of excrement, sung to keep the northern player(s) happy. The only country at REC with no flag, no anthem. It's a joke.

I'm loathe to quote this guy but this is probably his only decent article all year, I especially like the comment on Phil Coulter.

I was actually going to comment about that article Brend. It's spot on by Brolly. Not often I say it.

That is a good article to be fair. He is capable of writing that sort of article because he is an articulate guy. Most of the time he uses his skills to ridicule teams..and mostly Tyrone..

Ireland's call is a pub song forced on our country, it's laughable when you hear the lyrics 'the 4 proud provinces of Ireland' I thought the unionists didn't believe their area was Ireland or Irish so how can that song help their view. I was outraged yesterday rugby game when the flags were shown and the Italian tri colour was shown, an Ulster provincial flag and Irish tri colour, when did the province of Ulster become a separate country, they can argue about the 6 counties but Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan are in Ulster and Ireland, the only way unionists will play our sport or respect our ways is if we make a few rule changes to football. Firstly you can't handle the ball, secondly no points only goals so no need for high goal posts, ya that sounds very much like soccer! Bingo, oh and thirdly Ireland would have to join the UK.

That cringey Rugby world cup Rudyard Kipling ad is bizarre. Cian Healy says something like "when you can sing your national anthem with pride". Strange that he delivers that line when he's the only player involved who can't.

Nobody will say Irelands Call isn't crap but who cares about the musical merits of a song? It doesn't impact on the winning and losing of games and whether one anthem or another is played it wont make somebodys day better or worse so why do so many people get their knickers in a bunch about the playing of Irelands Call and any anthem?

Just listened to Jarlaths full interview and his words were taken out of context, he did not call for the removal of the national flag and anthem.

Phil Coulter is a great songwriter and Ireland's Call is probably OK as a rugby tune but it's NOT an anthem. I think you can see that some of the players aren't happy to stand for this as their anthem and play the under that non discript of a green flag with a rugby ball. Why are we making changes to appease others when the likes of the NI soccer team and their fans refuse to budge on GSTQ and the Union Flag?

The Irish rugby team represents all and doesn't use Amhran na bhfiann at world cup or away games to not bring politics into sport. Irelands Call is neutral in a political sense. All the players don't care about the flag so much.
Remember some irish players were caught up in bombing right before 87 world cup and in the past there wasn't even an anthem played at away games.

I remember the rose of Tralee been played for the Irish Rugby team.
Also let us never forget the reception the English team got in old Lansdowne road when the Scots and Welshmen were afraid to come here, but they did. Honestly that day will forever be remembered
