Gavvygavgav- he should also have been carded for the poke he gave himself in the eye!!!!! and he should have been carded for not being given the obvious penalty that he should have got!!!

Lads if I wasn't triple marked through out my club career I'd be on the Dublin team and player of the year , all this time when I wasn't getting a kick I've realised it wasn't my lack of talent it was the lads marking me but even if you don't get a kick you should still be poty wtf.

By the way never once did a Dublin team triple mark a player this season.

He has a very good point about K Donahey
Tell me would any other Kerry forward have won that ball against Mayo last year and offload as quick as Donaghey did to JOD for the Kerry goal.
Was in CP when they beat Armagh in , I think 2006 and again Donaghy was the man who done the damage.
Now the Gooch has scored a lot for Kerry, and you would expect him to do so against some of the teams they met around2002/2009 , like Longford Sligo Clare Antrim etc but in the big games towards the end of the championship you will find that K D set him up for quite a few scores.
Now I always thought KD was never selfish, never tried to score himself when a team mate was better placed so I thought he was very good at laying off the ball
Off course he was well able to win it himself and some of those that he won I doubt if the Gooch would have won
Having watched Dublin over the last few years I thought some off their forwards were guilty of going for their own score when they had a better placed teammate on hand. I often saw them miss a host of goals and I think that was the reason.
To sum up KD definitely won a lot of games for Kerry

Sorry Clondalkin I can't agree with you. That article you refer to was very interesting .

Donaghy has been a great player no doubt about it but according to Joe's logic he's only had two good games Armagh '06 and Donegal last year cause doing it against Mayo and Cork doesn't count according to Joe. So Kerry's 8 final appearance's in the 00's is all down to Donaghy (don't tell Joe he only made the panel in 06) nothing to do with the O Se's Galvin O Sullivan's etc sure he beat Tyrone in the semi just gone on his own (shhhh don't tell Joe he was taken off at ht). The Gooch is the greatest forward I've ever seen play and nothing Joe Brolly says will ever change my mind.

It's absolute bs. So the Gooch has never been triple marked or had sweepers in front of him?

Donaghy grabbed Rory O'Carroll's arm and threw himself looking for a penalty, it was seen through by the officials, but he should have been carded for it. Donaghy is no stranger to playacting. You think Rory O'Carroll is going to put in one of the most disciplined shifts at full back in an all-ireland final only to pull down his man in the square with a couple of minutes left? Don't be daft.

How did he end up getting the back of the hand against the Mayo full forward -was he trying to shake hands.

I was talking about the article on player of the year. And O Shea was triple marked in those games. Gooch has nothing to do with it. He is harsh on Vinny Corey. He went man to man on Murphy and held him scoreless.

Gooch always gets the credit but Donaghy is the man. Gooch is brilliant if you stand back and admire him but put Joe Mc Mahon on him and hes just an ordinary forward

I think you mean Philly McMahon :) ...

Anyway look, Donaghy and Gooch are two of the best forwards ive seen, albeit different types of players. The Gooch is the best player ive ever seen though.

Never once did we triple mark Aidan O Shea that crazy talk. Philly McMahon had him in his back pocket he was afraid of his shadow ffs.

ah, browncows, I see you're countering my point by talking about a completely different game against completely different opposition.

He's a big lump of a man, prob what 6'4"...

Doesn't he also have basketball background?

Stick him in full forward and lob in high ball into him...

He's a great ball winner because of his natural attributes

But he's slow...

He puts himself about, gets in the face of players, very physical, cynical leaning, causes trouble, moans at refs, stands in front of lads taking frees

It's hardly of the standard set by Cooper

Brolly must have been a massive Wimbledon FC fan back in the 80's...

Kerry are seen as the ambassadors of skill and all things football... they have spent the best part of 10 years sticking in big basketball players and lobbing in long ball hoping for the best.

It's hardly silky footballing skills.. again more Wimbledon than Barcelona

It seems Mr Brolly wants to take up the mantle left by Liam Hayes.

This is not only incredibly offencsive to both an individual player and a county's GAA tradition it is also nothing more than two-fingers to his readers.

Its a case of, to hell with it, I'm going to say what ever I can to make a headline to end my few months of commentary on the Championship. I'll go out with a bang and who cares that I don't believe what I'm writing or that I will contradict myself again in another week's time. This will get me in the public eye again for another day or two...

To be honest I'm sick of how my county's proud and exceptional record and tradition in the GAA is constantly undermined and assaulted by 'experts' looking to make a quick headline.

At this stage I'm beginning to wonder if that's lesson one that is taught in sports journalism in Ireland: How to make your name = attack Kerry football.

My county has produced generations of legendary footballers, it is the one constant force in Gaelic football - contesting 50 finals, winning 37 and invariably being involved in the greatest games and occasions in our sport.

And yet, and yet, we are the only county that has to stand up to accusations that we don't deserve this or that all Ireland, that we won easy titles, that we are just 'lucky'.

Just contrast the narrative of this year's and last year's All Irelands.

2014: Kerry power through Munster, get held by a draw and win a replay against Mayo, win a defence dominated low scoring final and are accused by many of being 'lucky' or being 'average' or not really deserving their title at all.

2015: Dublin power through Leinster, get held by Mayo, beat them in a reply, win a defence dominated, low scoring final and yet they are hailed (deservedly so) as worthy champions.Where's the consistency??

My point is, commentators like Brolly latch onto whatever fragment of evidence they can to put forward one narrative, whether it has any basis in reality or not. He says we won 'soft' titles against Cork and Mayo as if those sides were plucked from thin air and put into a final, as if they weren't actually the second best teams in Ireland that year.

By his (and others on here and elsewhere) criteria shouldn't we also dismiss Dublin's victory in 2013 or Donegal's in 2012 because they were 'soft' titles against 'only' Mayo.

As for his tirade against Colm Copper, I won't indulge in his bile only to say if Colm never performed on the big occasion why has he finished up being the top scorer on the field of play in almost any All Ireland he was involved in?

Mr Broly, if you are reading this, your article was a disgrace.

When Colm Coppper is on the steps of the Hogan Stand next September collecting his fifth All Ireland medal I hope someone will remind you of this article.

The Hermit, personally I think Brolly article is just a cheap shot nothing more, this was written years back and he just dug it up again after the Dublin defeat.
But your not the only county who gets lashed for losing games or discredited for winning .
So less of the how dare anyone besmirch Kerrys great name.

AthCliath, you know as well as I do that Kerry gets far more of this bile than any other county.

Just look at the ungracious reaction to our All Ireland last year on this and other forms and look at how many people are dancing on Kerry's grave for our non-performance in the final this year.

Yes the Dubs, Tyrone etc get their fill of it, but there seems to be a special place in the heart of these people for pouring scorn on the Kingdom and all our achievements.

Brolly stirring it and apes jumping on his very words.
next year he will have a cut at Donaghy and make reasons why he wa sh*te throughout his career.

Brolly picked games/times to suit his article yet totally overlooked games where Kerry or Gooch against the odds pulled off a victory or even played well in defeat

Just remember....Brolly has 1 AI medal to his name. Kerry players have always reiterated that they dont take any heed to nonesense from someone who hasnt had half the career as they have had....especially the Gooch, prob the most magical player I have seen in my time watching GAA...that is watching him at club as well as county
he changes his opinion like the wind.
