Was this the worst semi final ever?

Oh yew_tree, believe me that 1992 game was a shocker ! Much, much worse than last Sunday's match...and proof that all that matters in a semi final is winning it. Watching that game, you would have put your house on Dublin winning the final cos Donegal were awful & look how they played in the final !

Anyway...trying to digress a bit from yet another forum that's turned into 'you're an eejit, no you are'

Was really that bad? I was only 4 at the time so obviously don't remember the game, but I saw highlights on You Tube recently and it didn't look that bad, there were even some well-taken scores. Selective editing?

Definitely 1992 semi was the worst I can remember. However it worked out well for Donegal as they flew in to the final completely underrated and written off by everyone and we in Dublin know how that one turned out!

14 & 18 are two of my regular lotto numbers. The 6 numbers I chose are from 3 games played circa 1991-1992 in soccer, GAA & Rugby. Success to date? Using the failed tickets to crush dying flies in my car.......

Not the worst as it was saved by Dublin's scoring burst and the Mayo comeback from the death. First 55mins were as bad as anything we've witnessed in the last number of years. As for the worst ever, personally 2011 followed closely by 1992. Remember some horror shows from the 70's, dates escape me at the moment.

Was high up in the Hogan on Sunday and thought it was an absorbing match from beginning to end. What you often get from an All Ireland semi final between two evenly matched teams when the stakes are so high. The shooting at times could have been better from Mayo but there were some lovely scores some brilliant tackling as well as some off the ball "entertainment". The desire from both teams was extraordinary, exemplified by Mayos comeback, when their tired bodies must have being telling them to give up, and half of the Dublin defence converging on Andy Moran five minutes into injury time. I watched it again on Monday when the dust had settled and found it equally enthralling. As for neither team being good enough to win an All Ireland, look at the Dublin, Donegal match in 2011 when it looked like a junior B game, yet Dublin beat Kerry in a thriller in the final and Donegal won the following year. Poor champions? I don't think so.

Gleebo, yes, it was that bad. This whole 'worse one ever' thing is all very subjective but that one is definitely up there as one of the worst I've seen.
I went with my Dad, a proud Donegal man & after we'd celebrated for a while he went 'My God that was awful though'. We were all very fearful for Donegal in the final & how wrong we were. Never write a team off because of a semi final performance.

OK the standard of football last Sunday wasn't great at times but it was still an enjoyable match, the last 10 minutes as good as anything you are likely to see. I still believe the winner of this match are in with a great chance of beating Kerry. Both teams played more defensively than normal and just neutralized each other. I expect the replay to be a bit more open as both teams are capable of much better than that.

The 2011 Donegal v Dublin semi-final is not as bad as some make out. I think if people watched it now (after 5 years of blanket defences) they might have a slightly different view. I'm not saying it was a classic but bad shooting was responsible for the low scoring.

I do remember the Donegal v Mayo 92 semi-final as being poor alright, even Donegal were poor that day despite winning.
