Time to Move On

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

In response to the op it really is time to move on and look ahead to the replay on Saturday. I don't know if anybody else felt the same but the poisonous attitude on the pitch between both sets of players found its way to the stands on what I thought was a really bad atmosphere during and after the game. It's something that has been creeping into the game over the past number of years and is a shame and certainly not where any of us want to see our game going. I was sitting in lower cusack 304 in what was supposed to be a family section and the vile and abusive language been shouted by both sets of fans some young some boy so was nothing short of disgusting. On leaving the game a brawl broke out beneath the stand between anything up to 10 fans and I heard numerous other reports of arguments and abuse between fans in the big tree and on clonliffe road before and after the game. Throw into the mix the substantial number of Mayo fans on hill 16 (which is their right by the way) and all the optics are there for something quite nasty to happen which is something no true Gael wishes to see. This type of stuff doesn't belong in our games and to be honest I despair for where our game is going both on and off the field.

Can we please move on from the constant arguments over which team was the more guilty of fouling, which players deserved cards, which players were instigators in certain incidents and which team scored more from play or from frees. It is all in the past, there were guilty parties on both sides and the officials are not blameless. Are we going down the route of the bad blood that existed in 1996 and still is there with Meath and Mayo over the two finals and the row under the hill. Next saturday will hopefully be another battle with less of the silly stuff going on. Mayo proved unreservedly that they have huge bottle to come from 7 down with the clocking ticking down. Dublin didn't close out the game for whatever reasons I am not sure, maybe the fact that three of their midfielders were not on the pitch wasn't a help and even allowing for that they had the opportunity to win it with a free. Time for both sets of fans to move on and look forward to next week. Which team has the advantage can be debated right up to throw in. Varying opinions are out there, mayo finishing strongly shows they now have found the way to get at dublin or does the fact that this was dublin's first proper game since last year's semi bring them on up to speed for next week. I am not sure but I hope Dublin win and if they don't I will be gutted but life goes on and it is simple as this one team will be getting ready for the final and the other will be licking their wounds for a little while. Let's relax and look forward to saturday.

Maybe it is time to bring in a T.M.O and to segregate fans.

Sean867, agree completely it was cynical, we know there were two teams at the cynical stuff, and know it takes two to tango. DC gets that all game every game, as does O'Shea and does Donaghy etc.. He should have been cuter! I disagree with the notion that we can't score from play though and agree with the master that the fouling was systematic. The Dublin tackling was poor and that's why there were so many frees.. The opportunities just weren't there for scores! I think the Dublin defence will sort out the tackling for the weekend and think it will be a higher scoring affair as Mayo will attack more as that blanket defenc ein the first half did not suit us at all.. This obviously opens up The attack for the Dubs too.. DC is a massive loss for Dublin. However, Kevin Mc caused all sorts of problems when he came on. I don't think we can play any worse than we were Sunday and the general feeling is we got away with it. I think we are in a better position Sunday as the Dublin team will feel they left it after them blowing a 7 point lead with 7/8 minutes.. We know how that feels!!!!!!!
One thing that struck me and I may have said it before is with the last free of the game Dublin went backwards and played for a draw. I thought that was a sign of mental weakness too and the ruthless 2011/2013 teams would have gone to finish it! On the back of that, I would give ourselves a slight edge but literally 51/49%, It's near impossible to call, but I can't wait again! What are the Dubs feelings on Cluxton, just a bad day at the office or is he in decline? Once we pushed up on his kickouts in the second half, we won 6/13 of them and then the missed frees? I'd be of the opinion that he is the best GAA keeper ever and form is temporary, but a lot of the Dub fans I spoke to after feel he has been in steady decline for a couple of years? Be another hard long week over analysing ever battle, scenario etc.. Can't wait!!! I do think the second game will stand to the winner!

Lickybhoy, agreed, the language and abuse was a disgrace, was Hogan myself, but people should take into account kids and families and know the Cusack is the family stand. I didn't find afterwards a bad atmosphere though and was in Fagans the whole night talking to Dublin fans and a couple of former Dub players and had a great night, didn't see a cross word exchanged.. I actually thought after 2013 final had a much more sinister atmosphere! If we have to start segregating fans, it's time to forget about our game! I do feel it's always just a few bad eggs that let everybody down.. 82,000 people, you'll always have a few!

luckybhoy
think your wrong to suggest the number of mayo fans on hill16 with regard any trouble
there was 5 or 6 around me and shook hands with them after the match
was discussing things during the game
no trouble at all

I agree though, it is time to move on and I hope we get a cleaner game on Saturday in which I'll be now watching on the TV.

Regarding Cluxton he was under a hell of a lot of pressure in the closing 8 mins of normal time and 5 mins of stoppage time. Wouldn't say he is in decline per say just one of those games.

I think people need to block out what they might hear fans around them saying...you need thick skin for this stage of things when its high stakes.
Majority of fans calmed down after the game....you will have a few clowns but hopefully Man Utd v Liverpool keeps them away from Jones Rd on Sat evening.

We were in the Cusack and never felt the atmosphere was any worse than usual in an intense encounter. Stayed Sunday night and Mayo and Dublin fans in the hotel bar chatting without any rancour. Even at a junior club game you can get the odd gobs***e that doesn't know how to behave. The mingling of fans is what puts our game apart from cross channel soccer variety. Sad if there was any hassle for anyone at the drawn game but let's not blow it out of proportion.

I think both teams should be banned for the year and hand SAM to Kerry.

Would save everyone alot of time and I can book my holidays for the end of the month.
