I don't think what Murphy did can be dismissed as pushing just because he held on to the jersey.
Silly reaction by Keane but red card seems harsh.

Jimbo the same rules that got Connolly clear for the '11 final for tapping the Donegal player in the face? Come on he barely touched him to miss out on a massive cession like this for that is a joke. We're known as the Fighting Irish all over the world what a joke.

I watched it, if what Murphy did is striking then we are really goosed!

Red card seems harsh for punching a player in the face in front of the umpire?

Keane only has himself to blame for his predicament: he'd only been on for two minutes when he whacked Murphy in the face in front of the umpires. It's as black and white a case as there is, and there is little chance of it being overturned on appeal. It looks bad that we would appeal when the rule book has been so blatantly breached, tbh.

BlastCalyle, have to agree. This driving a kind of side-fist into a guys chest, and then just gripping the jersey afterwards is something that is creeping into the game. It is an inflammatory action, designed to get a response. Surely there is a striking action there too? Grabbing a jersey afterwards doesn't change that.

Personally, I think the game would be in a far better place if we used common sense in these situations.

I was against the appeal, but as clondalkin pointed out, there is a precedent, so an appeal is fair game.

There is a precedent?

Remind me again of the time a player got a red card for unequivocably punching someone in the face rescinded?

Suppose I need to qualify that slighty.

*when Frank Murphy wasn't involved.

He gave him a little puck in the face with zero power behind it Jimbo, for me if he was cleared I'd have no problem whatsoever.

Here you go breffni. Two punches into the face, and two more in the shoulders. Overturned on appeal.

Interestingly, the last two were very similar to what murphy did, only without the jersey grab afterwards.

If Keane is cleared and McCann banned then we may abandon the rule-book altogether. It would be the biggesst farce in the history of anything.

Why? McCann set out to get a rise out of an opponent, he went out of his way to goad his opponent, then dived on the ground when someone touched his hair. Keane was set upon by someone, again looking to engineer a reaction, and he lightly touched his face with a half-closed hand in response as he was walking away. I would see it as common sense prevailing to be honest with you. In fact in any other walk of life, I'd argue that people would say justice was done.

On what grounds is this appeal ? Why do Mayo think it would be overturned ? Talk about an undeserved sense of entitlement ...
I agree that if GAA even considers overturning for more than 2 seconds it will be a joke ..

Keane was set upon??? Get off the stage good lad. Look it was a half arsed punch to the face, but a clear punch nonetheless. Murphy goaded him but it wasn't the same thing, get a grip lads. The rules are the rules, and I love a good scrap in a heated game and was in many a scrap on a pitch, but the rules are the rules unfortunately!

Keane will get off.The GAA are usually lenient this time of year.Suspension would have occurred if 1st round in league
