€12million fine /2 years imprisonment - Kerry CoCo

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This is a very bizarre situation, 12 Million seems an extreme amount just for a sign or even 2 years in prison. Biggest joke ive heard since the Tiernan McCann fall but that was only last week so its not that long. Only way to fight it would be to decorate the town in Kerry colors for a week then bring it all done again on the 24th.

I said governance of this nature is filtering down from the EU. As the Cavan man pointed out also. It's an over reaching nanny state mentality. Telling people what weights and measures to use,who can come in to your country. What is and isn't politically correct and on and on it goes.

There is no way to prove or disprove your contention, but in my experience of working in international affairs, I would say that the linkages between governance in the EU institutions and local authorities are pretty weak. As far as I can see, the sole function of the EU from a local authority standpoint is to provide subsidies such as the CAP, and nothing much further.

Still, it strikes me as redonkulous that the County Council (in Kerry, of all places!) would seek a move like this. There's no surer way to alienate local people.

Gleebo........ Linkages may be weak but the mentality that underpins the EU institutions and all forms of government in Ireland and other countries in the EU is the same nanny state variety. A bunch of as*holes trying to tell everybody how to live and what to think etc etc.

Big government is watching you. This is like something out of Fr.Ted. If only officials came down just as hard on actual criminals.

Is the letter even legit? Did they speak to the local council and find out before going to the press about it?! The fact they say you can't read a signature makes me think it's someone (not from Kerry and offended by the sign) taking the p*ss!

Its no more 12 million. They have that arseways. Its more likely the maximum fine under that provision but, no way the Council would apply that. Not enough research done into that.

And not complying because, you can't make out the signature? That's bonkers
