How is Lacey not on everyones team ?

He won player of the year as an attacking defender. He had four all-stars and had two before the era of Donegal dropping players behind the ball.

His first two were from corner back.

Also Michael Donnellan didnt play long enough .

On further reflection i would drop Dooher and put P Joyce wing forward instead & M Murphy in full forward.

Im stunned

couple of things .. While cork only collected one all ireland during the noughties im surprised to see so little of them on peoples selections

but here is the biggest query

ANTHONY LYNCH !!!
how is he not everyones automatic selection for corner back. Not only the best of his generation but possible the best corner back cork ever produced. Kept gooch socreless on three separate occasions. Two time all star and 7 time nominee. Played on poor cork team from 2000 to 2005 but still shone in every game he played. Best man marker of his generation and did it as clean as could be. A tough fair hard competitor who was respected by everyone he ever marked. eVEN CONTACTED DONAGHY when he got sent off despite not actually connecting with him.

We wont have many on this selection cause for the most part our best in all positions would have better from other counties. Examples
Nicolas Murphy v darra o shea
Goulding v cooper
etc etc

but lynch defo an automatic choice there wasnt better than him in the era were discussing

they scraped over the line against an overachieving Down side and flopped on the big stage several other times so how many are you looking for?? Positionally most Cork players can't live with other players of that era. But I'll agree Lynch would definitely fit the bill, as would Canty but I think that's were it stops for Cork during that period.

Difficult exercise as some posters are more focused on the last 7 or 8 years and performances in that period in fairness jump out quicker. In terms of pure natural ability Ciaran McDonald, Peter Canavan and Michael Donnellan would have to be on any team although their best years were as much before the last 15 years as the were since. Very few players these days with the exception of Cooper electrify the crowd to the same degree. Agree totally on the post of Anthony Lynch. Brillant corner back who also often moved out to No. 6. Cluxton and Cooper are probably the only two where you would get a uniformity of agreement as they have being there for most of the 15 year period.

Barry Owens just misses out because he didn't play for long enough and I had to include Canty somehwere (although Owens is probably the best out and out full back of the century).Donnellan faded away too quickly in the early 00's, Joyce faded away after the 2001 all ireland win for a few years (although he had a bit of a revival at the end of his career) so he loses out because of that.Declan Meehan was in contention as well but again like a lot of that Galway team they faded away after the 2001 all ireland.

Agree with that.To go from the best man marking corner back to an attacking centre back shows he was a complete footballer and he completed a transition that not many players could do so effectively. In my opinion Lacey and Tomas O'Se are the 2 greatest defenders of the last 20 years or so with both of them being all time greats.

Barry Owens just misses out because he didn't play for long enough Barry owens played from 2001-14. I would have thought 13 years is plenty for an intercounty career.
