The "Dublin" Media

That's true Realdub. We're just the ManU loving Dubs with no intetest in GAA. Isn't that what the other 31 counties are always telling us anyway. There hasn't been a decent GAA sports hack from the capital since Keith Barr in the noughties, even if he did have a shadow journo correcting his spelling mistakes :)

The Irish news could hardly be considered unbiased. Same as the good awful gaelic life!!!!!

Thee I was, in good humour, enjoying my lunch break, scanning HS for any nuggets of GAA related matters that might pique my interest & someone has to mention Roy Curtis

Thank you very much. That's my day ruined. I'll be in foul humour for the rest of the day now & go around muttering to myself.

I'll no doubt fall out with Mrs MuckrossHead & get no dinner, or anything else for that matter.

Roy bloody Curtis.

MuckrossHead

Great post :-)

That man once said Steve Staunton should set himself on fire. Last year he won an award for journalism. It was like Rab C Nesbitt winning an award for hygiene.

If you read the Irish news this week ( I think Wedensday) Kenny Archer writes a good article about Tyrone But he say everything must be seen to be equal.
Ban a man and others walk scot free over similar incidents Do you just read what you want to hear ??

---
No but perhaps you do as I'm referring to an article earlier in the week. If I get time I will dig up the link for you.

Curtis once referred to Shannon RFC as the Claremen in an article he wrote for the SW.........
he also once left a match early, went home, filed a report, only to discover after it went to print that there had been a huge comback in the last 5 mins and the team he wrote and article winning.....lost....

No need to look up the link as I think this is the article you are referring to::::: THERES A LOT TO BE SAIDFOR THE WAY YOU PLAY THE GAME. Danny Hughes wrote this about Tyrone.
But in the same paper ( August12) Kenny Archer wrote::: THROW STONES AT TYRONE BUT DONT SPARE EVERYONE ELSE.
so I'm surprised when you saw D Hughes article( I think this is the article you referees to) that you did not see K Archer's article.
Both articles are similar to most of us posters on here , just two opinions and K Archer, if I read the article right seems to have a certain amount of sympathy for Tyrone but at the sMetime not condoning some of their antics.
So that is why I said to you ::: do you just read what you want to hear. No offence ment but I read the Irish News every day , especially GAA and I don't miss an article on the GAA
IT IS MORE OR LESS THE NATIONALIST PAPER IN THE SIX COUNTIES , in my view a very good newspaper, was brilliant over the last few years to Donegal when we were going well and is cheap to purchase
If that is not the link or article let me know as I can trawl back on older editions. A fair bit more was in yesterday's paper especially 'OFF THE FENCE'

Not sure if this is on topic but the Dublin football team have their own media manager. I find any time Jim Gavin or a Dublin player give an interview they come across very well by just repeating the same old cliches:

One game at a time
Looking for a performance
That won't be good enough the next day
Not worrying about the opposition
Lots to work on

I doubt they ever refuse an interview but are well coached in what to say and how to deal with awkward questions. For Jim Gavin it's been a success, because the media like him and he's able to manage them. The relationship works well.

Low and behold as soon as a southern commentator says something that helps their cause he is suddenly the one to be listened too. What a bunch of clowns. Ha ha haaaa.

I'll assume you might be directing that toward me and fair enough, but I've not once said that every commentator was against us. There are exceptions and Horan is one. It might be more fair,as pointed out by Liam,to simply say the media/media in general/some writers/some commentators etc." Dublin media" is simply a catch all term and probably isn't fair. Eoin "bomber" Liston has come out and said virtually the same as Horan too ,so we in Tyrone know that other respected gaa people are seeing the bias for themselves and are speaking out now. We take comfort from that and thank them for their honesty.

the head of RTE sport is an ex Blackrock college man called Ryle Nugent. He also comments on Ireland rugby games. He has no known like for the GAA and I would go as far as saying he is hostile to GAA (based on RTE website sports section)

so seeing as Eoin Liston who writes for a "Dublin paper", and James Horan who does a weekly slot on a" Dublin radio station" and writes for a "Dublin paper" are now on the Tyrone side, does that mean they are automatically blacklisted and not now part of the "Dublin Media" ??
So can you only be in the "Dublin media" if you are arguing AGAINST Tyrone?

Answer me that, and the issue is solved.............

It would be interesting to hear who the guys were who were ringing up Croke Park demanding they suspend McCann.
Then we would know which elements of the "Dublin media" were at this.
There must be someone in Croke Park willing to leak. Time these guys came into the open or were flushed out.

Ryle Nugent
Would not have a lot in common with the ordinary Tyrone supporter or indeed Donegal supporter for that matter.
Me --- my background, similar to a good few more in Croke park last Sat. From a small hillside farm , from a big family , forced to emigrate at an early age, grew up during the time of the BAN ( do people still remember it ) ALWAYS FOLLOWED GAELIC FOOTBALL, CAME BACK TO SEE DONEGAL PLAY AS OFTEN AS I COULD. FIRM BELIEVER IN AN END TO PARTITION. GREAT ADMIRER OF THE SIX COUNTY GAELS , HOW THEY KEPT THE GAME ALIVE OVER THE LONG WAR UNDER DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES. WERE GOOD ENOUGH TO WON ALL IRELANDS DURING THAT TIME
ONE MORE THING THAT LEFT ME VERY DISAPPOINTED WHEN IN DUBLIN AT LAST YEARS SEMI FINAL. WAS IN A SMALL HOTEL TO WATCH KERRY V MAYO , IT WAS FAIRLY PACKED BUT WHEN THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WAS PLAYED BEFORE THROW IN ---I WAS THE ONLY ONE TO STAND TO ATTENTION. HERE IN LONDON ITS COMMON PRACTICE TO STAND WHEN THE ANTHEM IS PLAYED BEFORE A GAME OVER THE LAST FORTY YEARS WHEN MUSIC WAS PLAYED IN AN IRISH PUB/DANCEHALL AT THE END OF THE NIGHT THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WAS PLAYED AND WE STOOD TO ATTENTION. IRELAND HAS CHANGED AND CHANGED A LOT BUT WE MUST KEEP OUR GAELIC TRADITION AND ESPECIALLY THE GAA GAELIC GAMES KEEPS US IRISH TOGETHER ESPECIALLY US EMIGRANTS , WE ARGUE OVER LITTLE THINGS ABOUT THE GAME AT TIMES BUT ITS THE ONE THING US IRISH HAVE IN COMMOM

Well,seanie_boy,if the cap fits as they say.
Seriously,I simply find this blanket terminology for all hacks as dublin media and southern journalists a bit simple and while you dont say they are all out to get you ,you and others are happy enough to see a southern commentator as someone to be listened to when the situation suits while on other occasions collectively damning them.
I can understand you getting defensive but Jesus man its not like ye don't draw a lot of this on yourselves.
For the record,I am not a Tyrone basher or defender and simply my take on this particular issue.
