Sure there's nothing like an oul Tyrone related thread to shake those Down folk out of their by now traditional long summer slumber. It would appear that nothing engages them more than the opportunity to throw in a few comments about the red hands, certainly more so than watching the excruciating tribulations of their own county team. I hear the slots and penny pushers of Newcastle have never been so busy over the past 20 years or so, what with all of those Down GAA faithful milling around with not much else to do with their time.

In the meantime, whilst you all wax lyrical about the good old days and how much Kerry respect Down (is there a trophy for this?), for us in the hills all roads lead to Croke park.

If fairness, ruffling of the hair can be a serious enough matter, sometimes requiring severe diversionary tactics as Jamie Wall quite rightly pointed out..

I suppose the question is, is Tiernan McCann Stephen Ireland in disguise?

Some of the northern teams seem to be getting carried away with this psychological warfare on the field - sledging and trying to provoke reactions from the opposition to gain advantage. Thought Whelan made a good point on Sunday night when he pointed out that if Tyrone forgot about the antics behind in the last 10 mins they could really have gone and pulled away from Monanghan playing good football. In the long run those antics will get you no where when you come up against seasoned tough teams who wont get sucked into it and will instead keep their focus on picking the opposition apart.
Micky Harte would be well advised to lay down the law on this to his players...if they have any respect for the man it should then put an end to these antics. Management are responsible for a teams behaviour - one recent high profile example was the way in which Gavin dealt with biting incidents in Dublin.

You might be missing the point here Blacknamber- Mickey has already laid down the law and the boys are obeying orders!

And one other thing blacknamber, many times I see Kieran Donaghy shouting and screaming into opposition players faces and remonstrating with the referee,he is always at it.Theres other fellas good at it too on Kerry team and good at any of the cynical tactics and its never a national outrage. When we do it Brolly calls it cynical but when you do it its called"ruthless efficiency" or something like that,to paraphrase the Derry mouthpiece with the Tyrone mother.Aidan O' Mahony performed a better dive than Mc Canns in 2009 Munster final. He actually took a few stumbles backwards as he cupped his face with his hands as if trying to resist the momentum from the most horrendous punch to the face.Every bit as despicable as Mc Canns incident but I don't remember hordes from other counties and the national media vilifying him in the way Tiernan Mc Cann is being vilified right now.

If thats true then it must be said that Malachy O' Rourke instructed Paul Finlay to target Sean Cavanagh and Peter Harte on Saturday and to give them a good punch to the head if possible. Is that fair enough? Truth be told I don't think O' Rourke would instruct his players to blatantly do such things and I don't believe that Mickey does either. Some of you guys are all too easily prepared to think that inter county players go out with a "chip" loaded into their heads that has a set of instructions that they are to follow to a tee and that they are not to deviate from. Then if something unsavoury occurs in a game then it had to be instructed by management, what a ludicrous starting position to take when analysing a game.As in all arenas of sport and life, players use there own initiative and instincts on the field and make decisions of their own in the heat of the moment.
