Why are so many people saying that RTE overlook Tyrone's good play and focus on the cynical side of the game instead? Last night they spent much of their time praising how they played, the performances of players like Donnelly, McCann, Harte etc. However they also had to analyse the part of the game most people were talking about which was the final 15 minutes that was an embarrassment for anyone who loves gaelic football. They done this fairly as well, highlighting that both teams were to blame. Do people just repeat lies on here about RTE only focusing on the negative in the hope of discrediting the very valid points the analysts make? Drumlinbelt. Is that what kept Monaghan in an hotel in Monaghan town until 12 noon on Saturday. were they waiting on helmets??? cause the wee bad boys from across the border were in Dublin???? It was boys playing men ? We were beaten by a team of mainly u21s. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 894 - 10/08/2015 20:24:40 1767621 Link 0 |
No bias at all. The lads are rightly calling it as they see it. It used to be arm clamping and sledging but diving and feigning injury are now high on the agenda. I remember in the 2011 1/4 final watching Tyrone players clamping Dublin backs arms and throwing themselves to the ground in the hope and winning a free and getting the opponent booked. McMahon was copped by the referee and booked for it but unfortunately another Tyrone player got away with it in the second half, won the free and the Dublin player was booked. Who was it only SON? I was disgusted, not by the deliberate tactic but because a player of his ability should stoop so low. I was a big fan of Sean C. He is a giant of the game and conducts himself very well when interviewed. He would almost be a role model for any youg kid.......except he has let this diving act blight his game. Smaller, more skillful players come in for a lot worse treatment yet it takes a lot more to bring them to ground. The SG fellas had it spot on. Players seemingly shot, hitting the deck rolling around, then springing up as soon as the ball is turned over. O'Rourke might have put extra gas behind his criticism but the facts were correct. Contoversy continues to follow them around 'like a bad smell' and this year they have had it at minor, U21 and senior. The Tyrone boys need to stop the circling of the wagons and begin asking the questions in-house. Only Tyrone can attempt to repair their reputation. feigning injury is one thing but going to the bother that Finlay went to is another. what type of play do you call that. Pure Manly behaviour. a fist to the nape of the neck to finish off a good knee in the lower spine. If the ccc examine this he will get about 6 months from all games. Mc Cann was stupid rolling around the place and The Ref saw he was mimicking but he dident punish him. The reason why Hughes got his red was of the foul he was after commiting on another player and the ref would have been infuriated that he lifted his hand to taunt a player while waiting on his sending off card. We were beaten by 55 mins. Good job the handbag stuff started otherwise it could have been a rather embarrising defeat. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 894 - 10/08/2015 20:35:19 1767634 Link 0 |
Joxer, did you see Rory O'Carroll last year standing with his back to play in front of Neil Gallagher and waving his arms in front of his face? Then when Neil got frustrated and got booked for throwing him out of the way, ROC immediately switched on to Murphy to do the same thing? That, to me is just as cynical and frustrating to see as anything else and obviously pre-planned to make it worse. benjyyy (Donegal) - Posts: 1422 - 10/08/2015 20:53:56 1767651 Link 0 |
Call a spade a spade Benjyy and don't be hiding behind non-incidents in other games. There is no bias. What did the SG panel call out that didn't actually happen? Imagine this. Imagine if Tyrone players didn't dive or feign injury, imagine if there were no dirty blows (by both teams). What would the panelists be talking about? Football! If none of this nonsense happens then it won't be talked about. True Tyrone have a reputation already, based on the antics of certain players over the years, so it probably is a tougher task for them to shake the bad name. But you won't do it by acting the way some of their players did on Sat, that's for sure. Joxer (Dublin) - Posts: 4700 - 10/08/2015 21:15:06 1767666 Link 0 |
a clear agenda on here by numerous posters..ignoring and dismissing other incidents..what exactly happened in the u21 match?..i seen tyrone players receive harsher treatment especially mcshane...o rourke is a pretty laughable analyst...he made a point about lee keegan missing the replay last year..the man was at the match yet doesnt realise lee keegan played in that match..this man is paid for this type of stuff..does he even do any research before making his points?....he usually rants about sky in the newspaper..mpst people dont seem to realise that mccann didnt get hughes sent off..hughes was already being sent off for his laughable attempt at a tackle in the lead up to the incident..most of what monaghan did in that game was brushed under the carpet and ignored...nothing annoys me more than the high horse brigade that exists only when it suits whichever county they want to win...a certain style of play and level of integrity must be observed however when their own side finds themselves doing the same things they criticize others for they simply ignore it..the hypocrisy is just gone out of control fabio8 (USA) - Posts: 2182 - 10/08/2015 21:40:41 1767697 Link 0 |
What went on on Saturday evening was no worse than last year's replayed semi final in Limerick In my book Mayo were hard done by last year, indeed a good friend of mine here in London ( Tipperary man) who was at the game told me that the Kerry backs targeted Mayo forwards from the off What about the fisticuffs that night, were any of the two teams asked to apologise SamOnErrigal (Donegal) - Posts: 1427 - 10/08/2015 21:41:05 1767699 Link 0 |
Maybe advising Tyrone to "stick to their guns"isnt the most appropriate advice. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 10/08/2015 21:48:03 1767710 Link 0 |

Well what had the sky pundits got to say about the end of game antics? RTE were calling it like it was, so what were our friends over on sky saying? Surely not discussing "tactics!!". I was watching it via illegal free streaming so thankfully I was spared that much. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4897 - 10/08/2015 21:57:07 1767726 Link 0 |
Thought Tiernan McCann's stunt was appalling myself, then maybe it's my age. Two youngsters (early 20s) at work, still playing club football saw nothing at all wrong with it. Both said they would behave in a similar manner.......just shows you! PatdeVerse (Dublin) - Posts: 107 - 10/08/2015 22:00:45 1767735 Link 0 |
WOW!benjyyy ,standing in front of a player and waving your hands, now that's dispicable. SLLY (Dublin) - Posts: 463 - 11/08/2015 08:05:50 1767736 Link 0 |
If Tyrone get to the All Ireland final, will Mickey Harte talk to RTE. It would be a strange build up if only one side speaks to the primary media outlet. muckla (UK) - Posts: 366 - 11/08/2015 08:44:14 1767745 Link 0 |
As an impartial observer i'd say the truth lies somewhere in the middle of the arguments on here. Yes Tyrone probably are one of the more guilty offenders however the SG panelists also embarrass themselves with their selective analysis. Some counties appear to be immune to criticism eg Sean Cavanagh was apparently the worst devil to walk the face of the earth after pulling down McManus in last years q/f yet a kerryman was lauded for fighting to the last minute even when the game was won for an almost identical tackle. If some of the 'analysis' on the SG wasn't so pathetic it would be funny. They seem more concerned with sensationalising incidents for their own agendas than proving u bias commentary. Time to ditch these clowns and bring in more articulate guys - the hurling is miles ahead in this dept. Saoirse2016 (Fermanagh) - Posts: 2 - 11/08/2015 08:46:31 1767747 Link 0 |
SLLY - so you think thats acceptable and within the spirit of the game? Not surprising really as its Dublin but I would imagine if Tyrone did it you and others would be adding it to their naughty list of crimes against the beautiful game. benjyyy (Donegal) - Posts: 1422 - 11/08/2015 08:56:39 1767748 Link 0 |

Tyrone aren't alone in this. There's plenty of cynical play from other counties too, anyone remember this from 2011? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8kzJ0yLcWs. Donegal players went down inured every time Dublin scored a point in the second half of last year's semi-final to stop momentum before making quick recoveries.
