Saffrondon you say you are not trying to be disrespectful to Galway and then say that they've had a couple of 'token' victories against Kilkenny?
Two of those 'token' games were in All Ireland semis, the other one by a margin of 10 points was in a Leinster final.Hardly token games.Believe me I was at them and they weren't token games to Kilkenny . The 2005 game is considered by many to be one of the greatest games of this era.For the 2001 team Kilkenny fielded what was regarded by many as the greatest full forward line ever, Carter, DJ and Henry, Galway with 14 men for most of the game won.
Choose your words a bit more carefully in future.
By the way I don't recall Galway ever getting a trouncing in a semi final by 18 points like Tipp did from KK as recently as 2012.

Tipperary's apparent ability to compete with Kilkenny is based purely on the 2010 final. Their championship record against Cody's Kilkenny is as poor as any of the other big counties (worse then Galway's in fact). Tipp may have a rivalry with Kilkenny but I doubt Galway care about that.
To dismiss Galway's challenge is not just disrespectful, but also shows ignorance of where Galway are as a team. The Tipp/Galway match is far too close to call, if Galway win they'll give Kilkenny as much of a challenge as Tipp would.

Tipperary haven't reached the final yet, there is the small matter of Galway next Sunday to be overcome first . Whoever comes through will give Kilkenny a severe gets In the final .

I need you to realise that im talking about the highest level on AI final day. I called them 'token' victories in the context of winning AI's as Galway never actually went on to win one after defeating Kilkenny. There's also no need to be going back as far as 2001 for examples as I was talking about the current era we are in. It's a fact that in this era Tipp are the only team to beat Kilkenny in the AI final and they've run them to the wire in two others. Until Galway make that break through on AI final day against Kilkenny I will call it as I see it, an honest assessment that shouldn't be viewed as disrespectful. If you read my other post I said I would love to see Galway lift Liam and beat Kilkenny in the final and I think they're in with a decent shot against Tipp on Sunday here.

Saffrondon,

In my view (based on over 40 years playing and watching hurling) Kilkenny are the hardest opponents in GAA.Any victory over them is hard earned. To refer blithely to a victory, 3 championship victories in fact, over them as 'token victories' is disrespectful and belittles the achievement. The fact that we didn't go on to win the All ireland those years is neither here nor there. The point is since Cody took over we have 3 wins, Tipp have one, achieved in 2010 when kilkenny were hit by injuries .
Fair play to Tipp the took full advantage but stop with this nonsense that only Tipp will challenge them in the final.
How would you like it if an Antrim man won an All Star and was referred to as a 'token' Antrim man?

awk lad did you actually read anything that I just wrote above?? everything you just said I explained, apart from the Antrim bit and believe me if a current Antrim hurler were to win an allstar 'token' would be the kindest word you could give it. I would call it 'scandalous' 'rigged' or 'friends in high places who want to lose their job' territory.

Slayer the feeling would be the same on our side of the border wouldn't worry to much about that allways on about 2009 they should see the calls they got in 1991.

If our Donegal friend doesn't have the stomach for another KK v Tipp classic ,how do u think ,how happy the neutrals are after Donegal footballers got knocked out because no one wants to watch another football final like last year.

johnwhite, why would you resort to old stereotypes about Tipp "arrogance" because of one poster who all he has to offer is "27" or some other silly nonsense.

I was at the 91 final.I remember it being quite close most of the way through. Not a classic by any means.Nicky English & Cormac Bonnar were carrying injuries and both were not at full pelt.Nicky got a couple of soft frees in second half.Think one led to M Clearys miss hit goal from a free.So maybe a couple of dubious frees johnwhite, but Tipp were the better team.Just.Ye should have still kept that free out and Pat Fox was the difference in the last fifteen minutes.
