AI Semi-Final Dublin V Mayo

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Dublin will find it hard to hold O'Shea but Mayo will also find it hard to contain Dublin strike force. Dublin can score from distance Mayo can't, Dublin to shade it, I hope I'm wrong

Will the Mayo boys go 15 on 15 or will they use the sweeper? could have a big impact on the result. If they went man for man, I would probably be happier as a Dublin fan.

This game will be built up as going to be a classic, game of the year etc. The same was said before the 2013 final and again last year we (Mayo) were patted on the back for being involved in games of the year v Kerry...Well so bloddy what? The ONLY thing that matters to this Mayo team and supporters at this stage is winning an All Ireland.

I don't subscribe to the notion Dublin are not tested therefore are at a disadvantage. This Dublin team have been involved in and won close games before and have two Sam's. It is a mouth watering game for the neutrals against two teams the predominantly play attacking football but I only really care about winning.

I can't call the game yet, it's too far out. Dublin are rightly favs but are beatable as are we. We can do it though.

Dublin should win, Cluxton's kick-outs will be a huge factor, I think O'Carroll will do well on AOS, dubs will have a better system than donegal to stop AOS. He's not a player thats going to score 5 or 6 points, he primarily is there to score goals and win easy frees for o'connor. Mayo 100% deserved there win but lets not fool ourselves, donegal were dead on there feet after 20mins. They had played 5 tough games and look tired and mayo capatalised. Dublin will be coming in fresh and confident of beating this mayo team again. Another factor is if keegan is marking connolly or flynn, im sure he wont be going forward as much as he did against donegal. Should be a great game, can see dublin winning by 3 or 4.

Have to say at the start of the year I completely wrote off Mayo. I was wrong, very wrong.
So far to me they look the strongest side. Dublin have looked disjointed in their last 2 outings which is a worry as a fan.
It is hard to go from second to fifth gear at the drop of a hat and Dublin will have to do that to get passed Mayo.
I hope they can, I hope Dublin click on the day and I hope the winner of this game wins the All Ireland either way.

The untested thing is a load of rubbish I agree. It has become a buzz word in the media - untested and undercooked!! Many an All Ireland winner in the past went untested.

I could not care less if it is a classic or not, once we win.

I can't see Mayo going 15 on 15, the sweeper worked very well for them at times Sunday, although Donegal were not at the races whatsoever and a better side could have opened them up. Mayo went full on blanket for a lot of the second half, they will try blitz Dublin early on and get a few goals off AOS you would assume.

What's the likely midfield for boys in blue?

When one sees a corner back like Keith Higgins cracking a score from the 45m line one could beg to differ! Higgins is a fantastic player mind.

It's Mayo for me,
Dublin just don't look as formidable as the last few years.
Mannion is a big loss as is O Gara who I don't think is the most skillful he takes marking.
The other area is midfield I think Dublin are light here too.
I suspect you will see Mayo push up on the kickouts like they did on Saturday and be successful.
Finally I don't think ROC will handle AOS.

Dublin @ 4/7
Mayo @ 15/8

Pretty clear cut as far as the bookies are concerned.

Mayo to score first, lead at HT and win 17/2. I think I'll stick a score on that one.

Really looking forward to this game. Both Mayo and Dublin won their quarters easy enough, pulling up in both with 20 to go.

I think that Dublin and Mayo will both be really fresh and can't really seperate them. Should be a real battle and might even go if I got a ticket!!

I would hope to see McAuley and Fenton start with Bastic available off the bench. Not sure tho

Have to agree with Horan

Mayo have progressed since the 2013 final

The best half of football I've seen in the last 10 years came from Mayo last year

When they wiped the floor with Kerry...

How on earth did they end up drawing that game

Just goes to show how bloody good Kerry are..

There's a never say die strength in Kerry

It was evident against Mayo in 2014 and it's still there for all to see when they managed to salvage the Munster final

Very impressive

On the point that Horan made I think Mayo have progressed since the 2013 final

Unfortunately Dublin have gone back

Hats off to Mayo - very much remind me of the 90's Dublin team... full of character, determination and deep hunger to win a title

They keep on coming back...

You cant underestimate the loss of EOG in this upcoming game

He won the AI for Dublin that year - Mayo just couldn't handle him

It's the loss of those sorts of options that will have a big bearing on Dublin's ambitions this year

The best teams will expose such things and Mayo are certainly that...

Cluxton will need to be on the top of his game and Dublin will need a game plan for kickouts. With Barry Moran, Tom Parsons and Seamus O'Se all around the middle I could see Dublin getting cleaned out of it

Well in fairness

It's not as easy as you think

Dublin have had a weaker midfield since 2011 compared to Kerry / Mayo / Cork and still have had a lot of success

Although you do make a good point - it's def a weak rea

I don't really buy the O'Gara thing. His strength caused Cunniffe problems on the day, but he wouldn't be getting marked by Cunniffe on his own if he were playing in a few weeks. The reality is, if we could bottle up Michael murphy like that, we could bottle up O'Gara. Similarly, when you have a target man in there, the tendency is to let it in. Donegal kept doing it, and it wasn't working, but because the target man was there, they kept doing it anyway. In reality, they were just kicking the ball away. I think O'Gara would produce the same result.

Also, just a word of warning for us all, it is 3 weeks until the game - let's keep it light enough for a while yet at least.
