No All Ireland in Dublin this year

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Things look more interesting now than a month ago but for me Dublin still the most lightly winners at this moment. If any 2 of Dublin/ Kerry or Mayo get to final we should get very good final.

here here Muckross, KYsam is painful! it is literally the worst trolling I have come across! I am sure he is loving the responses he is getting mind you!!

Spoke with a Kerry man yesterday, he tipped Mayo for Sam. He said Dublin would not win for the exact same reasons Jimbo says Dublin won't.

I have faith we can get things right over the next 4 weeks. I was dreaming about Dublin training sessions with JG last night, roll on August 30th!!

how cna mayo win with only two stars on their team and weak bench and a weak full back line.
Im sure most of the country would be delighted but it aint going to happen they dont have the strength in the squad.
I think if donegal win they will make it harder for the dubs than mayo

Why I believe we WONT win Sam

In 2013,
when the game got rough and we needed someone to come on and win us a game, we had Dean Rock, Kevin McMenamin, Bryan Cullen, Paddy Andrews, Eoghan O'Gara at times etc
This year, we have NOTHING like that. We have and older and seemingly more selfish Alan Brogan, we have Cormac Costelloe who hasnt as yet lived up to his billing and thats about it, unless one of Andrews/McM doesnt start.
Compare that to what Kerry can bring off the bench.
Add to that, MDMA was POTY in 2013, this year he isnt even starting and when he does get on, he is totally out of form.
We have lost Eoghan O'Gara and Paul Mannion, Kevin Nolan and Ger Brennan. Kerry since then have added the likes of Geaney and O'Brien. Since last year they have added the Gooch!! Plus Galvin and Tommy Walsh to the reigning All Ireland Champions!!

Plus, we havent had to come out of second gear once this summer and face into a semi V Mayo or Donegal......

And ye say our pessimism is "bluster".....!!!

we are third favs in my eyes behind Kerry and Mayo and to be honest, if we meet Donegal, I wouldnt be backing us the way we are playing at the moment.

Thats not cute hoorism, thats not bluster, thats not talking out both sides of my mouth....those are cold, hard facts.

Liam have to agree

You've correctly pointed out a number of my own points

It's a pity that this thread went off on a tangent

Instead of looking at the cold hard facts and debating the points made

This is more encouraging

We badly need a lift and the more prominent players to find form

But it's not something you can just switch on...

Momentum, confidence and a feeling of importance to the team brings the best out of you

Was happy to read that too.. Al B and Deano said as much as well this week. 4 weeks is a long time to get things right in reality.

You can be sure Al was told to cut out the glory hunting and get back to how he has been over the last 4/5 years, creating chances, running defenders ragged and taking the right options.

Maybe I am being naive but I think we are all reading too much into the Fermanagh and Westmeath games. Last year we blitzed Monaghan and we know what happened then.

Fully agree with Jimbo and Liam regarding options off the bench and in the forwards. Again, at present Kerry would be my favourites to win and it prob won't change regarding the outcome of tomorrow.

IMO it's only common sense - we don't have the options we once had... and it was those options that won us the AI in 2013

But sure listen.. as you said - 4 weeks to get things right

I will be truly delighted if I'm wrong and I welcome the grief I'll get - every post will be welcomed and well received by a very happy man.

All the remaining teams have questions about their form & each is capable of a big performance.

All I have to do is remember how tough we found the Armagh game last year only to play well against Dublin & then poor again against Kerry.

I feel that the sideline is where this years AI will be won & lost wit Fitzmaurice being the best of the lot.

Having said that games will be decided by, refereeing decisions, howlers, inspired substitutions, the hop of a ball &, hopefully, by moments of brilliance.

Dublin are in the mix & at this stage you can't ask for much more than that.

Where's Breff and themaster's condemnation now?

Only reserved for the Dubs.

Absolutely 100% wrong. I condemned Dublin and Kerry in my first comment on this topic.

Very frustrating to have my words twisted like this.

Please post this. It's only fair.

Ye have the biggest population and resources by a substantial margin as well as enjoying the benefits of home advantage. So its only natural that everyone (fans, players, media) expects the Blue Juggernaut to come out on top.

Own it. When we were the team to beat in the 80s we weren't shy about it and expected AI's every year, now the mantle is on Dublin. Own it.Enjoy it.

The late Paidi had it right..

Kerry fans are "hard to please" and are "always demanding the highest standards because they are a proud race of people". They are also "the roughest type of f****** animals you could ever deal with". "You can print that"

We Dubs don't expect. We are just grateful to pick up whatever crumbs the Kerry men may leave after them every year in the Summer. I don't expect Tyrone to give them much trouble, on the football side, and I fully expect the Kingdom's galacticos to prevail.

They are all facts AthCliath. As I said own it. Embrace it. Live it. Love it.

Re: Paidi comments, those comments were relevant when we had good/great teams like the 1970's/80s/00s for example when we had our drought in the late 80's and 90's people weren't critical in the same way because we were miles behind Cork, not to mind the Meaths, Dublins and Downs of that time. Similarly now it's a very average team by Kerry standards and not a lot is really expected, they are very few galacticos if JOD is out that reduces the number even lower but sure we'll give it a shot and see what happens.
