Mayo V Donegal

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

To be honest I'm just delighted we are back in the quarter finals again,I thought our boys showed great character and no small amount of skill to recover from the disappointment of losing the Ulster final,
Looking forward to taking on Mayo, hope it's a great game and I couldn't call it,but I suppose the bookies have it right making Mayo favourites but we have the players to win it if all goes well on the day, looking forward to the craic with the Mayo fans again and whoever wins this I hope they go all the way and bring Sam back to the west or northwest.

Think too much is been made about Galway game.
I still think Donegal have gone back a bit. So for me its mayo. Donegal have surprised me in the past but this could be a bridge too far

McGee Lacey and Mcberaty will be massive losses if there out injured, Mcberaty's hamstring is at him all season.

I wont play down our chances, as I swore I would never doubt the lads after the dublin match last year. I think that we are up against it, but we can win it. I would also say we are in bonus territory now. We are on the road in a serious way since the middle of may, and our panel is wearing it for the worse. I hope that we can play to our full potential, and Mayo get a ragged start. That would leave us with every chance.

The Dubs looked like they were doing some seirous training on yesterdays performance. They wont be as lack luster come the semis, and that is for sure.

bring on saturday.

I don't know about Mcberaty, whoever he is, but McBrearty will be fine. He was taken off yesteray because the oul radar was on the blink but he will be fine.

Lacey is out & that is a blow, I haven't heard anything about McGee

Hate to say it but I think 8/11 is big odds on Mayo. If I was setting them I'd say its more like 4/9. Tough ask for our boys and its got all the hallmarks of 2013 all over again. Probably not a hammering but still 4-6 points win for Mayo. Hope im wrong (and the good news is that happens a lot)

Can some one tell me why Michael Murphy gets rave reviews every match? He's a very good player but on current form he isn't as good as what he's being made out to be surely?? 11 points from play in 15 games and very little goal threat in the last two years. It's almost like the pundits pick one player from each county and big him up no matter what.

Donegal a better team and Mayo to fold on yet another big day for me.

He doesn't get rave reviews in every match, the Ulster final being a case in point, mostly because of the attention he gets from opponents. Despite being man to man marked, double marked & even treble marked, he usually manages to have a big influence on proceedings.

There is a lot more to his game than just scoring, one of his big attributes is that he can & does play anywhere his manager asks him & he will do a good job.

Wtf are they doing playing him out the field the minute he goes inside he runs amok and then they bring him back out were he does very little.

Clondalkin, Murphy was played out the field last year against Dublin and unselfishly facilitated other players running riot in behind him as Rory O'Carroll ran around the field after him.

I'm not a pundit and I'm not from Donegal, he is an absolute class act, end of story. This guy is only 25 and could retire tomorrow and be remembered as a great. Playing out of position for most of the last 2 years, the best full forward in the country bar none.

I don't get why the Mayo full back line get so much grief, always seem fairly handy to me and generally none of the big sides ever get much against them.

Donegal abroad yeah it worked well against us but he's so talented it seems such a waste having the best full forward in the game running around the field doing very little on the ball.

Aw bless. I suppose as the late Gerry Ryan used to say "whatever gets you through the day". I used to have the same affliction with Man. Utd.some time back. I hated when they won and loved when the lost. Then it dawned on me I was having far more bad days than good.

Donegal like Tyrone are a back door team. Mayo and Monaghan are the provincial champs and for a good reason too. Its easy to get carried away after a back door victory but the wise money has to be on Mayo and Monaghan. Galway were poor enough, their defence at times clueless, same goes for Sligo, all in all very low level opposition.

Mayo are as good if not better than Monagahan so Donegal are up against it, Mayo to win by 4 points.

Ah now Tyrone would much more of a back door team than Donegal.. Didn't we leave you's in many a back door situation this last five years! Mayo still have to be faves, one week turnaround is a joke. Unfair really as a system.
