Curtain raiser games

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Now, this is not an anti-Dublin thread but why is the Kildare V Kerry match tomorrow the curtain raiser to the Dublin game? The All-Ireland champions are the curtain raiser, surely not right? and in what is bound to be a closer more competitive game. When we talk about the GAA and the Dubs this is what we mean, I just find it unfair that the GAA always fix Dublin to play at the more convenient 4pm throw in. I'm sure the Dubs will even agree with me on this one.

Agree 100% shortgrass. I had a similar topic on here a few weeks ago about the fact the Munster final was always scheduled for 2pm as well.

Its an insult to the Kingdom that we have to be the curtain raiser to a bunch of over-hyped no hopers that will go crashing out in the semi-final anyway ;)

Really, having to scoff down a pint in Mulligans barely after breakfast! No time to enjoy the build up at all!!

But I guess the poor craters have a long way to travel: sure you know the Luas and the Dart can be an ordeal compared to the 4 hour car journey we have to go....

Because if Kildare-Kerry was the second game there'd be a weird atmosphere with just the Kildare fans!

Personally I'm delighted we're on first as I won't have to endure the turkey shoot at 4 o'clock ( no disrespect to Dublin and Fermanagh )and also il be be back home for around 8 o'clock, sweeeeeet.

I know Ollie, my point a few weeks ago was why can't all the provincial final times and dates couldn't be alternated

Provincial finals ARE alternated.
This year Ulster final was 2pm, & Connacht final was 4pm. Last year that was reversed & so on!

2 valid points raised there for both sides of the argument ,namely, (1) Why should Dubs get prime slot (11) Put Dubs on at 2pm & CP would empty for next game!

All Ireland champions should not be the curtain raiser no matter who they are, this is the GAA trying to kiss the Dublin GAA backside yet again, if the GAA are worried about the stadium being half empty if Kerry were up at 4pm then 2 things spring to mind, either the Kerry-Kildare game shouldn't be in Croke Park or majority of Dublin supporters aren't GAA fans. We see plenty of Dublin fans that turn up to watch any game and they go in early, they deserve to be applauded but the sunshine supporters who are late coming into the grounds, spend the entire game singing soccer songs and chants, shout abuse at opposing players and fans and leave directly after the game regardless if there is a game afterwards are the people the GAA are trying to please, they aren't GAA supporters they are glory chasers and the GAA shouldn't be bending over for them. Dublin v Fermanagh should be at 2pm and Kerry v Kildare at 4pm

The Hermit they always have the Munster football final at 2.00pm followed by the Leinster hurling final at 4.00pm on the same day. This is followed by the Leinster football football at 2.00pm and the Munster hurling at 4.00pm the following Sunday.

Here are two well known facts of life.

1. The earth is round.

2. Dublin are the biggest attraction in the GAA world.

They may not be the best team.

But the certainly are the biggest draw.

Outside of Dublin, They are the team everyone loves to hate/hate

We fascinate every tom dick and harry..

Everyone talks about us, EVERYONE. Good or bad. We make people talk.

The bog trotters are obsessed with us.

We cant help it. We dont set out to be so unpopular/popular.

But thats just the way the cookie crumbles.

Kerry may have won more all irelands than Dublin

But in terms of interest that respective counties get, Dublin will always be box office.

So yes, Kerry are defending all ireland champs.

But if you think they are the team everyone will be talking about tomorrow evening, think again.

If you dont believe me, Just look over the last few pages of threads and see how many are about the Dubs.

To further prove my point.

Look at boxing, UFC, and other sporting occasions.

Who always takes part in the last event of the day/evening ?

The biggest attraction or the MAIN event.

When Dublin play in Croker in the championship, They are the main event.

Deal with it!

I heard Kildare made a deal with the Gaa that they don't have to endure watching the Dubs take apart another team as some of them are still suffering from post traumatic stress from the semi;)

For most neutrals the Dublin Fermanagh match is the least interesting and should be on first.

Doesn't matter what Dublins population is their match is the least attractive of the 2 on Sunday.

Absolutely.

I believe git, jonner and anto are on the beer tonight aswell

chances are they will finish the night in a cell in Coolock garda station on a charge of affray and will only be out at around mid-day.

By the time they get their cans of dutch gold, jump on the upper deck of the bus singing about whelo and jayo, the first game will be comin up to half time.

Don't forget, they will still have to ask directions to the ground when they get off the bus in Fairview.
