I used every performance this season, not only the National League. Looking at their performances against the big Southern teams of Mayo, Kerry, Dublin and Cork, I was very Impressed with Tyrone against all of those sides.

The question as to whether or not Tyrone could win the All Ireland this year, I think they are as capable as any other side.

Gary - Ok...they did perform well for sure against Mayo but that was the only victory against those sides. At the end of the day they didn't win the games to keep them in division 1, surely the first priority for the league? This year in the championship they have only played one top quality team in Donegal and came up short. If they win at the weekend against a Sligo with nothing to lose.... To win sam they will have play 8 games which involves beating Monaghan, and lets say Kerry and Mayo (in theory). I think a few less games and few less miles on some of their players would give them a strong chance of that but I can't see it. This team is not of the quality that won in 2008 (with the same amount of games) and the experienced players are dwindling in numbers. They face a Monaghan side that is more experienced and IF they get past that they then have to beat the best team in the country (until proven otherwise) and the likes of Mayo or Dublin. I would rank them as outsiders in this case and well below Kerry, Dublin, Mayo and a touch below ourselves and Donegal. In other words, capable but as capable as any other side.

I honestly think if we played Tyrone we would win by a fairly large margin. I am just being honest.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Liam, Tyrone have played Dublin 4 times in the Jim Gavin era, and the results have been:

2013 - Dublin 1-14 Tyrone 0-18 (Croke Pk - League)
2013 - Dublin 0-18 Tyrone 0-17 (Croke Pk - League final)
2014 - Dublin 3-10 Tyrone 1-15 (Omagh - League)
2015 - Dublin 1-9 Tyrone 0-12 (Croke Pk - League)

In summary, Dublin won 2 games by a point, Tyrone won 1 by a point, and the most recent encounter was a draw.

So, that leads me to conclude that, if it were possible for us to play Dublin in each of Rd 4, qtrs, semis and final, we'd have a realistic chance of winning the AI. Unfortunately, that is obviously impossible, and our record against Kerry, Donegal, Mayo and Monaghan isn't so impressive. Therefore, it's highly, highly unlikely that Tyrone will win the AI, but we are well capable of knocking out the Dubs should we meet them!

Of this current generation ( Past 4 years ), Dublin, Kerry and Donegal have proven their ability to win an All Ireland title and reach more than one All Ireland final. Mayo then have reached consecutive All Ireland finals, and 4 Semi-finals in the last 4 years. Tyrone ( 2013 ) and Cork ( 2012 )have each contested one All Ireland SF in the past 4 seasons.

In recent times, a team who manages to win an All Ireland will have previously made an appearance in the All Ireland SF a year or so before. Mayo have consistently failed to win it, and appear to lack the mental strength to actually cross the line. I think Tyrone have an outside chance, but realistically looking at last season top 4 and those with proven ability to push on, I think it will be between Dublin, Kerry and Donegal.

Put it this way Tyrone have the potential to win the All Ireland,I couldn't say the same about Monaghan,in my opinion it's between Dublin,Kerry,Mayo,Donegal,
Tyrone will likely give Kerry a good game, depending on the referee in that semi Tyorne have a decent chance of making the final from the easier side of the draw.
I hope we just limp past Galway on Saturday and come in under the radar for the Mayo game,we done it hard way in 2012 and I still believe we can win it this year,I felt we left it behind us last year, much like the Ulster final this year,
Mayo were robbed in Limerick but it was their own fault they lost it the first day,
somehow I just don't see Mayo winning it,as Clint Eastwood said 'deserves got nothing to do with it' you have to earn it the hard way.
a Donegal v Kerry final would be great, not sure I'd fancy meeting Tyrone though.

I was saying it after the league. Tyrone drew 3 games and were not too far away from a decent league. They are a threat no doubt.

lads
come on
anyone taking league football as a measuring stick for the championship is mad!
Just ask Brian Cuthbert!!
A game in february/March has ZERO influence on how a game will go in August
Last time we met ye in the CHAMPIONSHIP Tom, it wasnt so close, and if we met again, i would honestly expect similar
Sorry my old friend

Anyone can beat anyone that is left except for Dublin. The only team that can beat them is themselves. It could still happen. If Dublin had taken any of their 3 or 4 goal chances against Donegal last year they would have destroyed them. Donegal then have the AI won but for a massive goalkeeping mistake. The beauty at this stage is that everyone has a chance. A burst of 3games at your best and you could be champs - Tyrone included. Dublin however - miles ahead.

@seanfinn, read my post, 'in my opinion' not to detract from Monaghan but 'in my opinion' they aren't realistic contenders for the All Ireland,I may be proven wrong but I don't think so.

i cant understand the hype around Tyrone myself.
they were fortunate to beat a very average Meath side in Omagh and were level (or 1 point up)against Tipp at half time.
Monaghan want Tyrone to put the wrong of 2013 right.
Monaghan beat them handy eneough in the 2014 chamionship and again in the league this year.
If they do beat Sligo and face Monaghan ,Monaghan would be up for this game like no other.
Monaghan by 5+.

i think the one thing that can be said with certainty is that Kerry, Dublin and Mayo will be in the semi finals. I wish Donegal all the best but I wasnt impressed by them in Ulster this year. They definitely aint as good as they were in 2012 and last year. I see a lot of the Donegal players in the papers this week going on about the wides they kicked in the Ulster final which is fair enough but theres an element of hiding behind that kind of talk when the reality is a bit like ourselves they have only played in fits and starts this year.

Yes! Tyrone are genuine contenders. They are clearly an improving side though the qualifiers, gaining in confidence and with an outstanding manager. Also depending on how the playoffs pan out, they yet may avoid Dublin and Mayo and end up on the easier side of the draw where more potential for a path to the All Ireland final may open up. If Tyrone make it to the semi-final spot they'll get some stopping.

Bladecx, Monaghan have one win over Tyrone in the championship in recent years (as you pointed out, in 2014) but it was a one point win, hardly an easy win. I'd be confident of a Tyrone win if the teams played again.

Bladecx you cant understand the hype around Tyrone what hype would that be exactly. If you check it was a smartass Dub Fan who created this thread just so people gave give Tyrone a dig.

I hate to say this but 21st Century Tyrone in Croke Park at real championship knockout time are definite contenders. Will be doing Lough Derg if they come up against Kerry.

Tyrone in Croker under Mickey Harte have shown themselves in the past to be a different sort of beast to what you'd see during the Ulster championship. Whether the 2015 version is good enough is debatable, but definite contenders along with Monaghan. Provided Tyrone account for Sligo, the match up against Monaghan should be one of the highlights of the year.

Not in my opinion.
They are living off past reputations.
No marquee forward.
They've had 9 different lads at HF line this year.
For me they may make a semi but that would be over achieving for this group.
