1760519 I think Tyrone are genuine contenders, they have the ability to beat the likes of Kerry, Monaghan, Mayo and even Dublin. Basically they have the ability to beat any of the other sides on any given day, and that is enough to make them genuine contenders.

They have done nothing to show they are capable of what you say they are . They beat Limerick a team that won their last game to stay up in Division Three. They beat Meath narrowly in Omagh. They looked good in the 2nd half v Tipperary . However Tipp failed to get out of Division Three this year and looked very limited against both Kerry and Tyrone. Peter Canavan highlighted Tipp's lack of work rate. Whatever is coming down the tracks at Tyrone is going to be a massive step up on what they have beaten in the qualifiers . I wouldn't write them off but I have seen nothing to convince me that they are capable of taking out the big guns.

brend I think everyone in the country would be massively shocked, yourself included, if Sligo beat yous.

You may not want that talk in case it puts your team in a false sense of security but unfortunately that's how everyone sees the game. You could argue that you're a victim of your own previous success!

With Kildare issuing out a full can of Whoop Ass to Cork previously, who's to say Sligo cant do the same thing to our boys. We're not that great in all fairness, there is some momentum there surely but realistically the only division one side we played against so far is Donegal and we lost. I would fear Monaghan greatly, I think they're a class act, and have improved since last year. They have marque forwards, big midfield and tenacious defenders. Here if we get over Sligo and into the quarters it wouldn't be a bad season.

From here on out, it's all down to the performance on the day. The rubadubs have been caught short a few times over the past few years. The accursed were let down last year by a lack of killer instinct. The glen boys have been finding consistency hard over the past few...

So, turn up. Play well. Ride your luck. Win.

Theres a big game in them potentially..I expect them to beat a sligo team that wont recover from the connacht final beating..Monaghan in the quarters an obvious scalp that they could take. Then it most likeley would be Kerry and i think that would be the end of the line... but they would definetley give Kerry something to think about

TyroneLegend the Kildare Cork game is the complete opposite of the Sligo Tyrone game. Kildare were the team that came through the qualifiers, that'll be yous this weekend, and beat the provincial losers cork, that'll be sligo this weekend.

So it's a comparison that doesn't really ring true.

Let's hope its a great game. I expect a bit of fight from this Sligo team. A battling Sligo team is a tough one to beat. Tyrone will need a tough game and it will stand to them if they beat Sligo. It's hard to know why Sligo got run over in CF but I'm sure the shame of that and playing in croke park will offer Tyrone a tougher test. As a Sligo man I have a soft spot for Tyrone and always enjoy good days for mickey harte. Here's to a great game

NO they aren't they have beaten poor teams to get this far and they will beat sligo and Monaaghan but i think Mayo will beat them..

By default they are at this stage, Cork had a poor match on sunday and they are out of the championship and they are twice the team that Tyrone are. Next year wen they have no Cavanagh to fall and get frees they are Goosed

Bad enough , Dublin , Mayo, Donegal supporters saying Tyrone will beat Sligo and then Monaghan but now an Armagh poster saying Tyrone will beat Monaghan lol, lack of respect for the Ulster champs again . We have improved big time since last year and you will all be proved wrong. Fear of the Farney.

Why is everyone presuming Tyrone will beat Monaghan?? We'll beat them by 5 or 6 points.

I cannot understand why people get so upset about the "lack of respect" shown to their counties. What lack of respect is being shown to Sligo or Monaghan? Some people think that Tyrone will beat both of these teams. That is their opinion and they are entitled to it. I cannot fathom how that implies a lack of respect. People are particularly writing off Sligo. I say with good reason, I cannot see anyway that Sligo will beat Tyrone. Could I be wrong? Of course I could but that is just my opinion on how the game will pan out and not intended to be disrespectful towards Sligo. It seems to be that if you say anything other than it will be a tight, close game you can be accused of disrespect. Ridiculous, in my view.

For the record I would fancy Monaghan to beat Tyrone

Very good post the_walls. Some people are like little robins defending their patch to the last but this is a forum where people are entitled to give their view and while sometimes you will not agree with a persons view I think the least you should do is RESPECT their view and then engage in a discussion about it.

I disagree, they should have and fully deserved to beat Dublin in Croke Park during the league. Dublin got a scrappy goal in the last minute to get a draw. They beat Mayo well, had a draw with Kerry and gave Donegal a very tight game in the Championship. Basically they have consistently played to a high standard, and were very unlucky to get relegated.

The Qualifiers are what they are, you do what you can to get over the line and use as little energy and effort as possible, because you will need it for down the line.

I have always believed it can be hard for bigger team with genuine and realistic Provincial ambitions, to pick themselves up for a Round 1 Qualifier against some smaller team who fully expected to be in the Round 1 draw.

The main thing Tyrone have the very few other sides do, is belief they are just as good as everybody else.

I think it is because the predictions made are not based on logic or current form. There is still that opinion being bandied about that Donegal left the Ulster title behind them. Now I have read a lot since and respect everyone's opinion, so long as it's not baseless or begrudging, but the only analyst that got it right was Bernard Flynn in the Mirror (he was at the game by the way). His take was (and I'm paraphrasing here) that Monaghan were the more hungry, passionate team that were better coached, they beat Donegal at their own game, then when the game seemed to be won they went into choke mode, making some silly mistakes handing the initiative to Donegal. This was hard to take at first but he was right. Donegal didn't suddenly up the gears as they pleased they were let to some extent.
The big IF after the game was that if Donegal got a couple of their wides they would have won. The fact is If Monaghan had scored any one of their missed chances, whether the goal or the 4 point opportunities in the second half, the game was dead. Both managers [should] know the true story
With regards to Tyrone, I think they are going in the right direction, but they will come up short this year and it IS disrespectful to both Sligo and Galway to be questioning whether they can beat Monaghan. Remember if Galway win THEY play Monaghan and if they do win I for one would rather play Tyrone or Sligo as the tactics required to win would not be far removed from the Donegal match that we geared up for all year.

For me I would get a little rankled with a lack of respect shown post events. In the build-up anything goes for sure….I prefer when other teams talks themselves up as it makes a sweeter sound when they thud on the field.

In 2013 (division 3 at the time) we comprehensively beat Donegal to win Ulster. A lot of posters on here (and not from Donegal folks I will add) said nothing except well done to wee Monaghan on catching the champions off guard. Lots of stuff about Donegal being hungover and Monaghan having a soft route to the final et cetera….I didn't see anything about this beforehand though….Everyone said Donegal would breeze past us. Although not near as bad, similar comments this year too. The league semi-final this year….A lot of posts about Dublin being flat and not getting out of second gear to scrape past Monaghan. It was obvious what happened though to anyone who has played the game or even has more the passing interest. The opposition made it difficult and that had to be respected, particularly one week after annihilation in Clones.
