Which team is showing the least potential?

yeah Roscommon is another good example but the reason I mentioned the 4 I did is due to the fact they have proud traditions and SHOULD BY ALL LOGIC DO WELL

Big club success
Big pop
Big money

Again it wasnt a dig at Roscommon. Just stating the 4 I mentioned by all logic should be doing better

Took ye a couple of years gleebo ur not around that long swings and roundabouts and all that
Just 2010 ye lost to sligo and longford the darkness before the light
Easy kick when down ye weren't at much kicking then

I'm old enough to remember that season, and yeah, all teams suffer bad defeats. I seem to remember people rubbing it in at the time, so what goes around comes around, I suppose. I tend to support other teams from the west in the All-Ireland series, but tbh, the constant carping from Rossies towards my county makes it difficult to summon up any goodwill for them.

it's strange again with Derry/Galway. Huge club success but it doesn't seem to translate......at the minute.......... and then you have Donegal on the other side of the coin, poor club success (no offence intended before people jump on top of me) but inter county doing very well. It just doesnt make much sense to me

Maybe you are on to something there DoireCity - well, maybe from our point anyway. We have always had decent club sides and clubs who have done well at All Ireland Club level across both codes and at different levels within the codes. Maybe in Antrim there is an apathy towards the County due to maladministration etc and club is king and that is why we can be successful at one level but don't take this through to County. Or maybe it is the fact that the club is seen as more important by those in the clubs that this has fed in to our problems at County level. Or maybe it's a combination of both.

Yeah in Derry lots of people are club over county. I work with a fella who would rather see his club win ulster than Derry win Sam.

Also in past year management in Derry has had a bias towards certian clubs depending where they are from and hence left some of our best players out.

Ah offside as you know there are a million reasons for apathy re the County teams.

However, whilst we cant blame the current county board for all our ills they are certainly topping that table currently.

Another recent example being some bright spark (i use that term loosely btw) came up with the idea to charge U16s £2.00 into all our club championship games. Now we are a county, as has been pointed out previously, that is struggling to get kids interested in our games (particularly in Belfast) is then going to charge a child 2 quid to watch their club role models all in the name of gathering a couple of quid extra.
This idea has since been scrubbed after a bit of an outcry but it again highlights the calibre of county officers we have and where their priorities lie. It would be funny if it really wasnt so pathetic and they werent so clueless!

In reference to a few posts regarding club loyalty. Portlaoise very consistent in Leinster some of their players make themselves unavailable for the county.. for various reasons . Zach Tuohy in interviews only talks about his club and how much it means to him never heard him talk about the county.

Won't disagree with that bumper. Heard about the £2 charge in too and although it was one of those read and shake your head moments I wasn't entirely surprised. Remember trying to figure out the charges they had for a weekend of Championship games last year and just gave up - someone had even queried it on the County website and got the normal short shift of an answer and were told to stay at home if they didn't like them. Think it was something ridiculous like a single header game was either more than or the same prices as a double header at another grounds.

Hi facethepuckout. Sorry if i implied you didn't have tradition. That wasn't my aim. I was simply stating the reason why i mentioned the 4 counties i did and not having a dig at anyone.

A previous poster yes I did mean at senior inter county level. it's strange again with Derry/Galway. Huge club success but it doesn't seem to translate......at the minute.......... and then you have Donegal on the other side of the coin, poor club success (no offence intended before people jump on top of me) but inter county doing very well. No worries Doire, no offence taken, Keep her lit up there.

Galway have the best club side in the land. Galway won two U21 All Irelands in the last 4 years. Won minor All Ireland in 2007 and will be there or thereabouts this year too. If Galway seniors aren't division one by 2017 and contenders for Sam then serious question should be asked why the huge potential hasn't been reached.

In regards to Meath yes they have some fine players but every county has a few stand outs. The problem with Meath is lack of top quality they use to have they have little or no strength in depth and have few leaders.
