The Jimmy McGuinness Championship in action...

Is the interest there amongst these counties for such rotation?

There doesn't have to be. Base it on the FRC proposal of loser of the Leinster and Ulster preliminary.

Realistically Dublin won't be playing outside of the Leinster championship. Fermanagh and Cavan are the stand out counties from Ulster to rotate participation in the Connaught championship. Longford and Westmeath would most likely to rotate involvement in the Connaught championship. Offaly, Laois, Carlow and Wexford would stand out for Munster Championship rotation. Is the interest there amongst these counties for such rotation?

You misread the post. All ulster counties would have to take a turn to play in connaught, and all leintster counties in munster. Why would dublin not play in munster? Kerry v Dublin in Thurles/Killarney would pack it out. Cork likewise in Cork and you could see their supporters making the effort to travel up to Thurles if it were the dubs too.

The big guns absence from their own provincial competition for a year would open up the prospect for a new winner in Leinster and Ulster.

Overall a well thought out overhaul but I think you may have made a mistake in regard to Ulster and Leinster semi finals being played twice. Crowds would also be poor.

The calendar I proposed was just to show its possible to spread matches out so sides know they'll play every four weeks and can organise club fixtures in between.

It should be mandatory the club fixtures are then played with GAA being played continuously for everybody in the heart of summer with fixtures known eg teams will know exactly when they'll be playing win or lose their 1st game.

Also yes an earlier poster missed the point there. Every Ulster team would have to play in Connacht once every nine years under that proposal.

In Leinster Dublin would have to come down to Munster once every 5-6 years. They wouldn't have a choice. Forgot this loser of prelim round by FRC. That just gives the weakest counties to Connacht & Munster and means more games( problematic fixture list)

I think Dublin fans would be excited about going to play in Munster every 5-6 years too playing in Killarney, Thurles or Cork.

The championship would be even but not lose it's provincial ethos or structure and the club game can be accommodated so much better.

If there was a Round of 16, it could have 50% representation from each province. 3 each from both Munster and Connaught. 4 or 5 from Ulster and 5 or 6 from Leinster. It would bring fairness across all provinces as a top half finish in one's province would have all those counties enter the All-Ireland series at the same stage.

I really don't like Shaggykevs ideas. Winning a Leinster title without Dublin in the competition is not winning a Leinster title. It's also not even close to ever being a realistic proposition that would happen. Gaa won't move the Dubs out of Croker let alone move them out of Leinster. The idea doesn't even solve much of a problem, it only takes one extra week to run off a preliminary round before quarter-finals. It evens things up a little but I've heard proposals less drastic that do that also. Legendzxix came up with a really good one. Where qf losers in Munster and Connaught play first round losers in Ulster and Leinster in the TMC the winner of that getting a place back in the All Ireland series.

At the danger of having a rant...For the love of feck can people not use a persons correct name?

It's been happening a long time now but it still goes on when the name is well known...for example, not that I have any affillation to the man or anything but Jim Mc Guinness is not "Jimmy" Mc Guiness.

I don't know do some do it on purpose to Irk people or what but you don't hear:

Jimmy Gavin
Paddy Spilane
Josie Brolly
Eamo Fitzmaurice

see where I am going..

(I am sure there could be a thread of alter egos all of it's own.. we can save that for the long winter of no GAA to discuss and amuse ourselves?)

In fairness when half the country was singing along to 'Jimmy's winning matches' its easy to see how the Jimmy name has stuck

Whammo86 but we have the joke of a Connacht championship with it taking 11 weeks to run off six games.
If all four provinces were equal numbers we'd have a simple structure for both club and county and the whole season could be mapped out in advance so teams know exactly which week they'll play win or lose

As for the Dubs leaving Croker, I'm not so sure. Simple fact is they claim no stadium in Leinster is big enough to hold them. PLenty down south and it would occur less often that a world cup so would add extra spice to that years championship and would not affect it. I doubt Laois or Westmeath would feel they won a tainted title. It might actually give them the confidence they need for when Dublin come back

The weekend's results have strengthened the McGuinness - Kelly idea. It was suggested that the participation of Sligo, Westmeath and Kildare in the proposed second tier highlighted a flaw. Unless teams can meet the league criteria, win their province or win a second tier championship in the preceding year, it seems they would be better off in a second tier championship for the remainder of the summer after provincial knockout.
