Joke that the qualifiers are in Croker. As much of a joke as Dublin having to play there every game.

I watch the footballers and the hurlers.
Since the drawn game with Galway, the hurlers have played in Tullamore, Portlaoise, Thurles and Thurles again this Sunday. That's 4 away fixtures on the bounce.
The footballers have played 3 games in Croke Park.
For folks like me who attend both codes, we are lucky we play the football at Croke Park as we hardly ever hurl there!!! We are almost always away in the hurling. Before people lose it at me, I'm just pointing out a great many Dublin supporters do know our way around the country. And have spent a fortune!

Aye but at least ye have trains going to certain venues, the rest of us don't, it's either the car or watch it on TV, ends and his gang have done nothing, good job I didn't vote for them

Riverboys, you have to be beside a rail line to use one. Most people in Dublin aren't. If you want to add an hour and a half on each end of your journey, you might get a train. For me that's far too inconvenient. Most people drive.
So don't be throwing that out. There's a rail line to Westport, so all you Mayo boys could easily get the train. Same logic!!!!

Lads, the way I always view the situation is, if I was turning on sky sports as an English man, and I see Donegal/Galway or Sligo/Tyrone being played in front of empty blue seats and an empty atmosphere, I would think to myself, what is this? This sport must be terrible? Look, sure no one follows their team? Oh wait its an amateur sport, what do I expect?
As we know this shouldn't be the case. The GAA need to start moving games OUTSIDE of crone park to smaller provincial venues for the PROMOTION of the sport. Not only does is help fans from far away counties to get to the games but it also looks very pleasing as the neutral to look at a game being played in a full stadium and a good atmosphere. Its also not rocket science that if you for example take a crowd of 20k and put them in an 80k stadium, the atmosphere will not be great, yes if the entertainment on the pitch is decent, the crowd might become a bit loud, but nothing to what it could be compared to if you took the same 20k and stuck them in a 21k stadium. The crowd is more packed, individual voices aren't being heard by supporters, its more as a team. For example, here I'll give 3 examples of games that should be played outside croke park, and believe me there is far more but here is 3
ALLIANZ LEAGUE FINAL IN FOOTBALL-even if it attracts Dublin or not, it will only attract an attendance of 33k or so MAX. This game should be moved to Clones if its involving an Ulster team or semple even though I would be against that because semples capacity is 50k and it would have that effect of emptiness. People have objected to this for varolious reasons but this highlights where the suggestion of a GAA stadium of a 30k capacity in Athlone would be quality. It would be perfect location and capacity wise.
Leinster football semi finals. They usually as a double header attract 50k. The game involving Dublin generally attracts 30 odd k of that. Play the other semi final, eg Meath V west Meath in a stadium with around 25k capacity and good proximity, ie Portlaoise Tullamore. The other semi final is trickier, the suggestion of an M50, stadium is good. If it was 30k it would suite all counties and would work for smaller games.
All Ireland Football Semi final, THAT DOES NOT INVOLVE DUBLIN. The one involving Dublin is always a sell out so that is good. The other one however only attracts 50-60 k in croker, it needs to be moved out. Use simple stadium, it is perfect
Other games that should be for same reasons, ALL IRELAND QUARTER FINALS, ALL IRELAND HURLINIRELANDG SEMIS

Don't delude yourselves, there are no english people watching the football on SKY in England. the only people who watch it are ex-pats or second generation Irish who have prior knowledge of the games. this idea that english people are watching because its on sky is misplaced. I live and work in London and not one english person that I have spoken with has watched it or has any interest in watching it, hurling possibly as a kind of novelty thing

Too true, I watched the double bill on Saturday in a pseudo Irish bar of sorts and only me and a mate were interested, everyone else would rather watch the ashes on the other screen. A bit like the Dubs supporters in August when theres a Manchester derby on sky!

Looks like a very poor attendence in Thurles in proportion to the size of Thurles, this is why the game needed to be played in Tullamore, much smaller, better atmosphere and stadium is more filled

Poor enough attendance. But the provincial champs need overhauling really. Combine Connacht and Ulster and Leinster and Munster and go back to knock out.

Atmosphere is truly awful in Croke Park due to a lack of fans showing up here. Terrible decision to have these games in Croke Park.

If Mayo draw next week do not bring the game to Limerick or anywhere which isnt exactly half way between them and the team they will be playing. You wont hear the end of it for years.

Sligo v Tyrone should have been between the counties.
Donegal v Galway fair enough.

That's a cheap dig. But realistically last year, would you have had an issue if the semi was played in Salthill? Because the distance thing aside, when was the last time Mayo played in the Gaelic grounds in Limerick in a championship game!? When was the last time Kerry did? Mayo would be more familiar with Salthill than Kerry, so would have fancied their chances even more playing there. Like Kerry would have going into that semi last year playing Mayo.
I know Dublin play in Croke Park all the time. Spare me the repetitive rant.
Last years semi should have been in Clones or Portlaoise. Munster and Connaught venues should have been disqualified.
