The question is, how bad were Sligo as opposed to how good were Mayo? Any Tyrone fan will still be traumatised by our inexplicable collapse against Sligo in 2002 and the lessons of that fateful day must never be forgotten. But for the first time this year on Saturday I saw a more purposeful Tyrone showing a greater attacking intent and more discipline than I've seen of late so its all good. I don't know a lot about this Sligo side but I would expect that on current form Tyrone will prevail and a meeting with Monaghan in Croke park awaits. brendtheredhand (Tyrone) - Posts: 10897 - 19/07/2015 21:13:06 1756033 Link 0 |
Sligo not in Tyrones class , if they had anything about them Tyrone would go for the jugular from the start , however in the era of just getting over the line expect same crap as before but tyrone will win , Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 19/07/2015 21:22:44 1756040 Link 0 |

The All-Ireland will be won by one of the top 6 or Tyrone. In my own humble opinion the winner of the Monaghan v Tyrone quarter-final will be favourites to make the All-Ireland final. As we know from '05 and '08, Tyrone have a habit of ending Kerry's All-Ireland title defence. Retaining an All-Ireland title is very difficult as everyone know's. Something which seems to be forgotten when those two years are discussed. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7922 - 19/07/2015 21:35:55 1756057 Link 0 |
Sligo did very well to beat Roscommon but today will hurt them. Tyrone weren't great against Limerick or Meath but to beat a coming Tipp team by 12 points in Thurles was very impressive. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1102 - 19/07/2015 21:40:56 1756061 Link 0 |
Is this game in Tyrone, Sligo or neutral. Saturday saw an improvement in Tyrones performance and showed us there are signs to be positive. Conor McAliskey Mattie Donnelly and Peter Harte were excellent. I feel McAliskey has to be our go-to man in the full forward line. Strong, can take a man on and great feet. I think Niall Morgan has to be moved from free taking duty and when O'Neill is fit again should regain the keepers spot. Mattie Donnelly move to midfield could be an important move. tir_eoghain_abu (Tyrone) - Posts: 773 - 19/07/2015 21:50:08 1756069 Link 0 |
Can't see Sligo winning after the devastation of yesterday. Tyrone don't have the same level of physical power or star-quality in their full-forward line as Mayo, but they have enough to win comfortably. Sligo seem to be trying to compensate for a lack of ball-winners in midfield by going short, but you have to be able to win ball off varied kickouts- otherwise the opposition will simply box you in your own part of the field, which happened yesterday. Lads Tyrone will take care of Sligo with plenty to spare..heard the Sligo manager Carew say in an interview on sat that they planned to play open attacking football against Mayo and he had learned an amount from working with Kieran McGeeney in Kildare - the lad is not up to it at this level. blacknamber (Kerry) - Posts: 267 - 20/07/2015 10:48:42 1756173 Link 0 |
seeing Tyrone's handy run to the quarter final makes our defeat to them even harder to swallow! Uncle_Fester (Meath) - Posts: 217 - 20/07/2015 12:02:06 1756249 Link 0 |

What venue would suit this fixture? Curlew66 (Roscommon) - Posts: 507 - 20/07/2015 12:49:05 1756296 Link 0 |
If you look at the last games as a bench mark then you can only see one winner in this game. Agree with damo that Tyrone should go all out attacking from the off instead of trying the cautious defensive approach as the space that Sligo offered to Mayo all over the park yesterday was not what you would expect to see at Inter County level. The time the Mayo lads had to settle and shoot or pass was criminal and the scoreline highlights this. The one problem for Tyrone in taking this approach is that I believe Sligo won't be as lax as they were yesterday and you can be sure they will work on that in the next training sessions and you will probably see less space offered to Tyrone. Sligo actually did well around the middle yesterday in that they won a high percentage of their own kick outs at around 85% (though Mayo won almost 100% of theirs too) and at first glance of this stat I thought it doesn't stack up with the scoreline as when a team is so dominant on the scoreboard it normally means a dominant midfield which wasn't the case. But they then showed the turnover stat and that explained a lot as Mayos success was massively ahead. But the point being that Sligo can win ball around the middle and if they can get it to stick they showed yesterday that they can take scores as they managed 2-11 for all of Mayos overall dominance. But if Tyrone play with a bit of, without sounding like Mssr Spillane, intensity then they should come through this one. Offside_Rule (Antrim) - Posts: 4058 - 20/07/2015 12:49:30 1756297 Link 0 |
brend I can only presume by those apostrophes that you don't think Tyrone have a handy run in then? Uncle_Fester (Meath) - Posts: 217 - 20/07/2015 13:14:17 1756315 Link 0 |

Tyrone to win easily. Sligo will be mentally drained after yesterday, Tyrone know this route well over the years. ShortGrass_1 (Kildare) - Posts: 223 - 20/07/2015 13:41:19 1756352 Link 0 |
No guarantee that Meath would have beaten Tipp either, would have been a totally different type of game. Meath's open style would have suited Tipp much better. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1102 - 20/07/2015 13:49:05 1756359 Link 0 |
redhanddefender im not sure you can say it's been easy for us. I think we were lucky enough to beat Meath in Omagh and I did expect form sort of resistance in the second half from Tipp. Come out of Div 1 teams I don't think there was that much quality left. Fermanagh and Kildare are still hanging about. Find_the_space (Tyrone) - Posts: 313 - 20/07/2015 13:54:08 1756365 Link 0 |
