Galway v Donegal

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

A lot of posters have Galway down to play Mayo should they defeat Donegal. Even this website has it up on front page. Surely Galway will play Monaghan if they win as they cant play Mayo again.

This is how the draw looks:

Dublin v Cork/Kildare
Kerry v Fermanagh/Westmeath

Mayo v Galway/Donegal
Monaghan v Tyrone/Sligo

Where is this 'draw'?
Surely Galway cant meet Mayo again?

Conordee for the quater final I think the provincial winner cannot play the team they beat in the provincial final e.g. Mayo could not meet Sligo. It is all a bit confusing as for the round 4 qualifiers you could not meet a team you prevoiusly played e.g. Donegal could not meet Tyrone. Have I got this right?

As for the venue, Carrick-on-shannon would be ideal as it has a really good ground and held the Donegal v Laois qualifier in 2013.

Jimthelegend, true Mayo cannot meet Sligo, but if Galway and Tyrone win, surely its Galway v Monaghan and Mayo v Tyrone. Some people , including this website , seem to have seen a draw somewhere.

Carrick isnt suited for this game, i cant see how the GAA would not use Castlebar!

This time yesterday no-one, but no-one would be tipping Galway to beat Donegal. Such a fickle bunch!

Castlebar is a 2 hour 15 minute drive from donegal town with a clear road. Add on another hour for letterkenny. North or west of the county where most of our support comes from is not going to make the trip if it is in castlebar

Sligo has a capacity of 18000 and is a good neutral venue, with a capacity that is ideal for the match. We should have it there.

would expect a donegal win..galway have improved but not sure they have enough talent to progress that much further although with walsh and another few players maybe

Google maps says its 1 hour 55 from Donegal town to Castlebar. Google normally is conservative with travelling times. I think Castlebar would be the best stadium for this game and hasn't got a game all year. I remember being at the quarter final in 2003 and the Donegal support was great that day in Castlebar.

Monaghan are not getting the credit they deserve for their performance yesterday. They set up perfectly to match Donegal, were intense, physical and had players able to match Donegals system. They then had forwards able to take on the McGees etc. The Galway match will be completly different, I just do not see Galway coping with Donegal system, this Donegal team lost a provincial final to a good team. Galway have not coped with Mayo and will just not cope with Donegal in 2 weeks. 2 weeks is key here.

It will only be:

Mayo V Galway/Donegal and Monaghan V Tyrone/Sligo if either Donegal or Sligo win.

If Tyrone and Galway win it will be a draw as far as I know.

Wrong, the draw is preset. Repeat pairings are only avoided if feasible. In this case it would not be feasible, as the Connacht Champions Must play the Ulster Runner Up or the team that beats them.

Just to clear it up for everyone GAA have issued this. No preordained quarter final draw.

Galway v Donegal and Sligo v Tyrone should be a double header in Castlebar, it will easily hold the crowd, it's suppose to have a capacity of 42000

Yes Donegalman but Sligo is hardly neutral either. On the doorstep of South Donegal and a long way from South Connemara which have a number on the Galway team.
