I've always wondered about pre-madonnas. I take it to meaning a Caucasian pop artist who had a major impact on the charts before 1984/1985 or so. And I began to wonder if any such existed? Names like Presley, Elton John, Bowie, Richard, Lennon etc trip off the tongue but I'm struggling to find a female equivalent. Perhaps I'll get some answers the next time I'm researching up at the GAA museum in Croke Park.
