GPA's Champs League Plan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Today's hurling qualifier round has Dublin, Limerick, Cork and Clare battling for two quarter-final places. It's a tough round with a lot on the line.
The football championship despite having more counties in the championship doesn't seem to have a qualifier round of that level.

Its pretty much the same situation as Round 4 of the football qualifiers.

And how well have offaly done in the qualifiers

Not that it has any relevance but they've been terrible in the qualifiers over the years but that's mainly due to them being terrible in general.Offaly haven't won a Leinster championship match since 2007 so its not the system that is to blame.

Scrap my last post, rush of blood to the head, anyway there are 3 guarantees for future planning, a champions league format? No GPA plan? No, Provincial championship retained in the summer? Yes. The GAA have said counties want to keep the provincial champs retained so that won't change and I don't want that to change, GPA idea is a non runner too many games, club football will be destroyed, clubs and co boards won't agree with that plan, Champions league format won't happen, that would mean provincial champ be scrapped. So where do we go from here, the current system just helps strong teams, Tyrone are now in the last 16 after losing the 1st game in the entire country (NY and London were away matches) while weak teams are now out of the champ, Armagh were pathetic v Donegal but are still in the champ, the strong teams sneak into the quarter finals out of the spotlight. I honestly can't see how anything can be changed, nobody want a B champ, nobody wants a hiding, nobody wants mismatches, no team wants less games, you can't punish teams for being successful like taking Dublin out of Leinster, probably the only guarantee is it will rain in Ireland more often than the sun shines
