Yeah I thought the freeze frame clearly showed the ball with the post behind it which could only have happened if the ball went wide (otherwise you wouldn't have seen the ball and only the post). Could be one for Mulder and Scully. Offside_Rule (Antrim) - Posts: 4058 - 08/07/2015 20:03:34 1750144 Link 0 |
unless there was a sliotar at the umpires feet?..i dunno.... kavvie (Clare) - Posts: 505 - 08/07/2015 20:09:26 1750151 Link 0 |
I'm not convinced. With about 5 seconds to go in the Examiner video the ball seems to disappear behind whatever is beside the post before reappearing about a foot behind the goal. Would that have happened if the ball went inside the post or am I missing something? rcarragh (Dublin) - Posts: 305 - 08/07/2015 20:17:58 1750158 Link 0 |
On the Sunnday Game clip the sliothar is clearly well behind the post when they freeze it. The goalkeepers bag of hurls is the black object behind the ball then, not the sliothar. The people behind the goal are claiming it went in, the Limerick players are claiming it went in and only the goalkeeper and fullback for Westmeath protest, despite the ball not staying in the net. That should be enough for anyone to confirm the umpires decision was the right one. Soma (UK) - Posts: 2630 - 08/07/2015 20:27:59 1750167 Link 0 |
It is beyond doubt that it was a goal and anyone who has yet to be convinced is really taking the p**s ! If they were umpires, there would be chaos altogether. In the meantime, Cusack gone to ground since Sunday. Must be working hard on wording his apology. Touchtight (Carlow) - Posts: 4 - 08/07/2015 20:49:13 1750183 Link 0 |

Got round to watching the new footage and ran it through frame by frame and Soma has pretty much given a running commentary of events and definitely a goal. It's the magic sliotar theory as in the original footage what looks like the ball which has been struck is the one lying in the net already. It's funny how things can appear on the telly when you only have a split second to view - even the wife experienced it last night as she came in to the room and at first glance thought Babestation was on but when she looked again it was actually The Food Channel. So much for the theory.....the camera never lies. kikfada (Louth) - Posts: 2091 - 09/07/2015 11:19:28 1750355 Link 0 |
