1750955 Some people obviously don't learn as we see time and time again on here the usual suspects coming on and castigating an entire team or Province over something without having the full information. But to me that is a deeper ingrained problem and while people might try to say it's not I have seen enough on here and during my years living in Dublin to know it is definitely the case and there is a real dislike for all things Northern. It's a sad state of affairs to be honest.
____________

Dublin also has one of the highest Sinn Fein voting populations.

It's not as black and white as you are suggesting

Surprised at Jim Gavin. Have tbh that was one odf the worst interviews from a manager Ive ever heard. He literally answered every question with the same answer. The whole 5mins was just Jim Gavin repeating himself over and over again. Very akward interview to listen to.

Any attack that leaves a lad in hospital for 2 nights surely has to be considered serious, regardless of what lead to it.

Yes and no Soma - I have been about enough in my life to see situations where someone takes on or starts something with someone and comes out worse. In my book in that type of situation you can have no complaints. Again may I add that I am not saying this is the case here but to broadly say that any attack should be taken serious is wrong.

Jimbodub - I am not saying it is a Dublin thing. I am saying that it is something I encountered from a lot of Southern people during my time in Dublin. But what has Sinn Fein have to do with this? A lot of the people who I encountered with these sentiments during my day to day living would actually have been very anti-Sinn Fein. The same types of people who use anything over recent years to batter SF since their popularity has grown.

There's a massive population in Dublin that feel highly motivated to support the struggles of Irish Catholics in the North and support the ideals that are carried by Sinn Fein and it's leaders.

As is the case right across Ireland... Sinn Fein and it's ideals, it's struggles, it's sacrifices actually speaks to a lot of people in Ireland

The way you're describing your experience in Ireland and living in Dublin doesn't add up for me

I agree that there are those that do feel prejudiced towards Northern Ireland

But the way you're describing it it's some sort of wide spread, commonly practiced thing...

It's clearly not that and it's a pity that's the experience you had Off Side....

Obviously you were moving in the wrong circles

Not at all Jimbodub - I choose my circles wisely. You can't choose who you work with though or who you bump in to on nights out and I think the sentiments are a lot more widespread than you would like to admit or maybe realise. I can understand those who are sympathetic and understanding of our situation up here feeling this is an attack on them but it's not though at the same time people can't stick their fingers in their ears and think it's only the odd person.

So we should all take up arms? You don't have to be a Sinn Fein voter to feel for those who have struggled in the north. Unfortunately you have a nutjob element on both sides hell bent on living in the past up there.

With that approach you just have the law of the jungle Offside. 2 nights in hospital mean it was a serious attack and the fact it happened before the game makes it worse. Maybe any investigation would find that Byrne would get twice as long a suspension as the other lad involved, but the lack of any investigation at all reflects poorly on all involved.
You will also find that there is a strong dislike of people from Cork, Meath and all Culchies in general from some people in Dublin, it's not something reserved for northerners alone. The same can be said if you go to Cork, Belfast etc.

If I went to live in Belfast I'm sure I'd have an ear full too...

I don't agree with your opinion

I think it's far too narrow

If anyone is bitter and mistrusting it could be argued that's very much North of the border

But thankfully I know well that those people are in the minority

That's my experience anyway

Strange interview from Gavin, he essentially repeated 'both players had a frank discussion, they regret the incident, shouldn't have happened and both players want to get on with their football' over and over again. But what happened before the game was clearly a very serious incident where Davy Byrne ended up with a broken nose, that shouldn't happen in the Gaa and for there to be no inquiry or mention of it in the referees report raises a bit of suspicion as to what actually happened.

But it looks like this has been swept under the carpet and we'll hear little else on this incident.
