Id hardly call those remarks stupid. He said what we were all thinking at the time of the incident

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He made his point, but was insisting on repeating it half a dozen times. He also then started to share his opinion about Paudie and 'the powers that be', but Maloney wasn't letting him get off the ground with that one. I thought that Maloney was superb, and did more to control Brolly in 2 minutes that Lyster has done in 15 years. He's also a very good lead commentator.

all theyv to do now is remove the likes of brolly spillane and o rourke and replace them with the likes of o se and whealan

Loads of people on here were saying Spillane and co. are constantly negative about football and are just on tv now to moan and whinge, yet as soon as they got a good game to analyse like Meath/Westmeath Spillane and Brolly were as giddy and excited as 2 schoolkids. Similarly Brolly and O'Rourke clearly loved what they saw in Killarney Sunday and gave the game full praise. I don't know why you would want to replace them with lads like Whelan or the Sky pundits who analyse a game in the same cold, calculated, joyless way that you might carry out an autopsy. Like those watching at home, Spillane and co know when they are watching something most people consider to be rubbish and when they are watching something entertaining and enjoyable.

Well done Soma, you have managed to find the two isolated instances where the 'boys' were satisfied, all's well with the world. If I recall, Spillane had called the game for Meath at half time and summarily dismissed Westmeath footballers whilst last Sunday Brolly was preparing for his trademark rant at the referee as well as O'Donoghue, hardly exceptional punditry you'll agree?

I can't believe the positive feedback here about Maloney, Twitter was in uproar complaining about him last weekend. Maloney ruined the soccer punditry by shouting over the pundits and constantly giving us his opinion on the game, he is now doing the exact same for the GAA. He doesn't allow pundits to express themselves in my opinion.

Poor aul Lyster....gets a heart attack and now he's up for the chop! Ah no in fairness I have always like Maloney. He really has a passion for the games and doesn't let the holy trinity get away with talking sh;te....

Daragh Maloney is an excellent commentator,
Get well soon Michael Lyster.
Thought it strange that RTE didnt react until one of their own got insulted by the panel...issuing a statement and an apology from the panelist.
Seems the attitude is that its ok to poke personal abuse at an amateur player but not at a fellow professional journalist.
Dont think its acceptable to hear "Gooch is a choker, one trick pony"/"McGuinness is a spoofer coaching Taliban to play shiite football"/"dont talk to me of Sean Kavanagh as a man"/" I will eat my hat if Tyrone win an All Ireland with Brian Dooher on the team" ... all followed by deafening silence from our national broadcaster.

There is a good reason why these were isolated cases Brend, most other games so far this year have seen teams afraid to try and play football. If you are really having ago at Spillane for saying Meath would win the game at halftime or saying Westmeath performed poorly in the first half then I am not sure who you would like as a pundit as I don't think anyone saw that 2nd half coming - there were people on here during the game saying what a joke Leinster football was because the 1st half was so one-sided. I agree with you about Brolly though, cheap shots at the referee are completely uncalled for.

Rubbish. The majority of games this year have been high-scoring and entertaining.

I imagine Maloney "controlling" Brolly had more to do with the producer roaring in his ear to do so rather than Maloney doing it off his own bat.

Suprised at the positive feedback, wasnt so positive on twitter. Although I believe maloney is a good commentator, hes no michael lyster and never will be. Also, im not brolly's biggest fan but maloney didnt let him make his point about the penalty and for once brolly was right about the decision and the ref. Hopefully michael's back soon.
