1748496 Now that the venues have been decided can someone from derry help me with the following - What would be the best hotel to stay in closest to pitch? how far is Dungiven from Derry city??
Try booking Dungiven Castle hotel, which is on the Belfast side of Dungiven town.
You would then go back through the main street of Dungiven towards Derry City, and would find the Owenbeg Centre of Excellence complex/Stadium on your left about a 1/2 or 1/4 of mile out of Dungiven.
Dungiven is about 15 mins from Derry City on the main Belfast road ( A6 )
Where did you go wexcore. Dungiven or the city. Not much in Dungiven except a few pubs. Derry city has loads to do and see since it won the city of culture and its very easy to pop into inishowen for the city and see Grianan of Aileach (only a 5 min drive from derry) which is one of our national treasures and you can see donegal, tyrone and derry from it. It should be on page 8 or 9 of your passport
Toney County: Meath There is much less enthusiasm than normal from Meath supporters for traveling to this match but you are the first I have heard talking about security as the reason (not having a go at you as you are obviously a big supporter who has not missed a match in so long). The main reasons I have heard for the lack of enthusiasm for traveling to this match was the lack of fight from the team in the Westmeath match when Westmeath started to get back into the game, something people did not expect to see from a Meath team. I have yet to talk about the Tyrone match to anybody in Meath without most of the conversation ending up being about the collapse in the last game. Have heard some people mention also that there might be road closure's/ traffic delays on the travel route due to possible parades in many villages/ towns but don't think that will stop people who would actually want to go, it's just an excuse. I myself will go but I am not expecting much from the team, expect a long sad journey home. Hope the team prove me wrong.
Galway and Roscommon fans should have no issues as the areas they travel through to get to Athletic Grounds and Brewster Park are not sympathetic to the Orange Order; leaving only a short dash to escape back across the border after the match, hopefully dejected, defeated but with cars still in tact.
Likewise Meath fans will probably use the A5 which is main road and too long for the Brethern to march along. Also more or less entirely Nationalist. So you won't come across any other "Royalists" unless you get lost and end up in Moygashel.
