I think it is scaremongering. Teams drawn first at home simple at that. I go to as many of the Galway games as possible and would not be concerned. I have found Northern supporters and venues to be quite hospitable. As a related thing a guy mentioned to me over the wend that the times may have been delayed until they knew the pairings for the hurling qualifier round on the same wend (for tv purposes). If that was the case it would be an absolute disgrace as delaying Round 2B in football is totally unfair for the teams involved for planning etc tv or no tv. kiloughter (Galway) - Posts: 1947 - 06/07/2015 11:52:42 1748268 Link 0 |
Yes we have all travelled up north before but this is a different weekend and we are told when the 12th falls on a weekend there is usually more trouble. Sorry to sound all doom and gloom to some but it is annoying to miss a championship game. Toney (Meath) - Posts: 298 - 06/07/2015 11:58:46 1748281 Link 0 |
DoireCityFC I'd love a lend of whatever you're driving if its only 4 hours from Wex to Derry! ;) Really need some confirmation on fixtures at this stage though... the home advantage is luck of the draw, and the '11th night' shouldn't be factor... the cccc need to just get on with it! Toney park in the showgrounds. It's a shopping centre opposite the college. They threaten to give tickets etc but you dont have to pay them. Healy park is about a mile from there. Yes its a tad longer of a walk but at least the car will be safe. gotmilk (Fermanagh) - Posts: 4971 - 06/07/2015 12:04:36 1748287 Link 0 |
Toney your choice to miss it through misunderstanding and unjustified fear. Last time there was any real trouble outside belfast was dublin. I have been out on the 11th night in Derry and Belfast and have told most people i chat to im a catholic from Derry. there is never any trouble. It would like them saying they are afraid to go to dublin for the 100 year rising parade. THERE WILL BE NO TROUBLE DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 06/07/2015 12:06:03 1748290 Link 0 |
CamanEileen typr Wexford to Dungiven into google maps! 350km. If you cant do that in 4 hours make sure you are in the slow lane to let others pass ;) DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 06/07/2015 12:07:23 1748294 Link 0 |
Aah now lads, McHugh is right Meath have gone soft. The way the world is now there is always potential for trouble. I could leave my house today and get run over by a bus........... However the North is a different place than 20 or 30 years ago, there is many a person who kept the GAA going in the 6 counties through this time. It would be an extrenbly sad day if the GAA decided that our great games could not be played there because of what other people call their culture happening that weekend. The times will be well thought out but these games need to continue at the home venues which I have no doubt they will. sam1884 (UK) - Posts: 999 - 06/07/2015 12:22:09 1748308 Link 0 |
Nothing to worry about lads. We are well used to being in the north for Ulster Championship games over the 12th weekend, waiting for parades to finish in Auchnacloy with our Donegal flegs out the window and I haven't heard any Donegal fan or their car getting mistreated. You would think by some peoples talk that people would be pulled from their cars and have them burnt in front of them but in reality the games aren't being played on the Shankill Road! You might get a few disgruntled looks but should be ok to go!! Tir Conaill Abu (Donegal) - Posts: 1671 - 06/07/2015 13:00:08 1748352 Link 0 |

It might do no harm to avoid areas frequented by our racist bigot brethren, and perhaps avoid wearing GAA jerseys, or flying GAA flags from the car window, oh and avoid driving a car with southern reg plates, and perhaps lose the southern accent, and don't try paying for anything in Euro, yeah, you should be safe enough then. Or alternatively, just laugh at the oompah loompahs like the rest of the world does. lol bryanadams (Kildare) - Posts: 733 - 06/07/2015 13:18:21 1748372 Link 0 |
bryanadams spot on ha ha. Every 3rd or 4th car in Derry has a southern reg anyway and you can use Euro in all the shops, bars etc up here. Pity is doesnt work the other way around aswell. Only flags you will see on the city side of derry will be green white and gold with the odd palastine flag flying DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 06/07/2015 13:47:58 1748399 Link 0 |

Now that Antrim are out I think I will use this weekend for a wee bit of fun - going to get a few mates, get the bowlers/white gloves/collarettes on and do a wee tour, jumping out from behind hedges/cars/lamp posts and shouting boo at any fans going to the games while waving my hands round like a lunatic. I reckon I can be in Owenbeg then jump in the car again and be in Omagh in time for the Meath wans arriving at Healy Park. Making both the Athletic grounds and Brewster Park on the Sunday might be a bit of a push but I'll give it my best shot. Offside_Rule (Antrim) - Posts: 4058 - 06/07/2015 14:13:35 1748461 Link 0 |
