Red card after half time?

Was referee simply playing advantage in first half and just didn't give the red..., was informed half time by a fellow official that he missed a red card offence so gave card upon returning to pitch to restart game for second half.. nothing wrong with that.

he let play continue (not advantage, just didn't see the incident). but gave a free to Cavan, let that be taken, let Roscommon take a kick-out, then blew for half time. 2 phases of play and no action taken. also spoke with his officials in that time but took no action.

Honestly I think the ref (who i have praised on other occasions to my friends as being one of the best around) got it wrong. Play had moved on substantially from the incident. All officials are miked up these days including the 4th official and at least one of umpires at either goal. There can be no miscommunication under these circumstances. Therefore it has to be assumed that the incident was drawn to the ref's attention immediately. That being so it can be argued he ignored the advice given by playing on. The incident had past and any action thereon moves to the CCC to adjudicate on the offence. It appears that over the half time cup of tea the officials have consulted each other and then agreed to retrospectively issue the red card. This is wrong. This is not in the rules or is it?
An incident happened in Croke Park a few years ago when there was a bit of a shamoozle after the half time whistle sounded and a player struck another. The ref issued a red card before he started play for the second half to the offending player. Some may argue that the two incidents are similar but they are not because of the playing time allowed in the Cavan game today.
Now where does this stop? Can a player then be sent off if he offended 3 minutes previously. What about 4 minutes etc etc? With the communication systems in place nowadays for officials they are in constant communication and are talking to each other at all times.
If not dealt with immediately it cannot be done retrospectively by the referee in the same game. Only CCC can deal retrospectively.
Also he disallowed a point from set play (a free kick to Cavan). Even if a player is in the small square as long as the player does not interfere with a defender a point should be awarded if the ball goes over the bar.
Not a good day for the ref.

First off, it was a red card offence no doubt. However, I have a problem with how it was dealt with. There has been uproar before about refs seeing big screen replays and changin their minds - who is to say the red did not see a replay at half time. Why was it not brought to his attention immediately? I am uncomfortable with how it transpired.

Also, Enda Smith hopped the ball twice for his goal.

Cavan also had a point from a sideline disallowed because of a square ball - seems a ridiculous rule to me that needs fixed.

Monaghan v Tyrone in 2013 quarter final the Ref sent off Penrose for an incident that happened at the half time whistle so there is precedent for this.

And in fairness to the ref this incident was shown on tv was just before the game recommenced and the ref was actually on the pitch so people saying that he was watching tv at half time is rubbish. His officials seen the incident and informed him and he took action when he could which was at the start of the 2nd half.

A simple disregard for the rules of the game by an inept referee!
Yes, the striking offence itself probably deserved red, but to allow 2 passages of play to take place, blow for half time, bring the teams back on, and then recall an injured player who has been replaced onto the field and red card him???? Was referee simply playing advantage in first half and just didn't give the red..., was informed half time by a fellow official that he missed a red card offence so gave card upon returning to pitch to restart game for second half.. nothing wrong with that.

Absolutely not, there was a lengthy stopage at the time and a couple more after. PLUS as I pointed out earlier the referee was explaining a decision earlier in the half that he would have had difficulty seeing by pointing to his earpiece (watch back it was when Cavan scored a close range point after an off the ball incident a long way from play). I actually thought the referee was really poor in the first half (I gave up watching when game early in 2nd half when it was effectively over) and while the sending off was the correct decision I would seriously question how it was arrived at.

Martin - you may go to a few comprehension classes because I didn't say anything of the sort. But I'll clarify just for you - Ros were very worthy winners.

The same happened in the 2013 fermanagh v cavan match. No cavan fans complained that night when sean quigley sent off before second half started for an incident that happened prior to the break!!!

Molaise - again different circumstances. That was a mass brawl after the half time whistle had gone.

Why not offside ? and more importantly does it matter. Cavan look toothless up front. Rossies had far more fire power on the bench than Cavan had starting.

Red card , no complaints . Don't really know what exactly was going on - Umpires definitely saw the incident - were trying to bring it to attention of referee but for some reason couldn't draw his attention while the game was on . Maybe it was a problem with the mic - looked that way anyway . They were having a good chat with him coming off the field at half time and some of the Roscommon players were throwing their two cents worth in as well . From the referees body language he looked to be saying - don't worry , it'll be sorted after the break ! I was of no doubt there would be a red card issued after the break as were a good few around me .

Just out of interest , does anybody know what the exact ruling is ? If we could have subbed him before the referee became aware then we could have continued with 15 . But say for argument - the player had to head to hospital at half time for treatment to a "hand injury" , what would have happened in his absence ???

not the same thing. that incident in the fermanagh v cavan game happened as the players were leaving the pitch at half-time. there was no play between the incident and half-time. Was Mossy Corr obliged to return to the field of play when summoned by the ref. what would have happened if he didn't return. I have seen subs red-carded before . ref should have red-carded him on the bench, he should then leave the bench and not be allowed back on the field of play and also serve a one game suspension. the substitution should have been allowed. or else should have taken no action as he clearly missed the incident and was not told about it by his officials at the time. there was a stoppage in play and then he let play resume. btw I think Roscommon were the better team and deserved their victory. also that square ball free when the ball was sailing over the bar was very harsh too.

Muckla - because the incident today didn't happen at the half time whistle. And it does matter as it's a decision by the officials. How toothless a team were etc is irrelevant to the discussion.

Until a referee receives the substitution slip a player is deemed to be still on the field of play. The referee was totally correct in what he did. There is no place for striking out in our games. We waited long enough for halk eye to correct scores so if video or TV evidence plays a part like it did yesterday I'm all for it. Poor cowardly tactics by the Cavan management in trying to replace Corr at half time. Seemingly the can't get their tactics right on or off the field. Well done ref.

Clutching at straws if there is an issue with the way the red card was administered it will be found out. Looked fine to me and Cavan tried to pre-empt the inevitable by trying to sub the guy. Officials done well at the match and they done the right thing and surely that is all that matters, surely none of us would want a player to stay on that struck another?

Substitution had not taken place so ref was correct, excellent decision in fact.
The most farcical thing was Corr limping back on the field pretending to be injured!
