Being Realistic : are Donegal beatable ?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

All teams are beatable. Derry should have won last weekend, Monaghan could stop the Donegal machine.

They are very beatable. Do people forget the year they had in 2013 defending their AI? Mayo absolutely wiped the floor with them and they were comfortably beaten in the Ulster final after scraping past a rubbish Down team in the semi final.

Donegal are very much a Johnny come lately county, GAA wouldn't have been all that big up there.

This one wins it, most stupid post of the year so far.....

All teams beatable (ask Westmeath/Meath) expect Donegal to at least make final in September.

of course we are beatable , same as any other side ( think Kilkenny / Kerry going for five in a row but got beat) What I do think is :::
First --- Ulster Final --- if both teams perform to their best , Donegal to win
If any one under performs then the other team will win Still I think Donegal at their best will win
I would then fancy us for the quarter final providing we win Ulster
Possibility of meeting Kerry in the semi and if so I would expect Donegal to beat Kerry and at the minute Dublin would be the biggest worry to me as we might not be able to repeat last year's performance. But if we were to meet Kerry again I could not see them catching us out with an early goal or I could not see us gifting them a goal like last year
As regards need stormcrow and 2013 its oblivious in 2013 that Donegalwere a tired team , had a lot of injuries and were well off the pace that year
The Donegal team that Monagham / Mayo beat in 2013 would not have beaten Dublin last year or the Donegal team that beat Dublin last year would not have lost to either Monaghan or Mayo
As regards us being Johnnycomelately, well it's a good job we did arrive and it's a good job Tyrone,Armagh also came on the scene as Ulster would not have many All Ireland's to show over the last 15 years, especially if we were waiting for Cavan. So if we can't won Ulster /All Ireland it would be great to have a new Johnnycomelately with Monaghan winning Sam

Haha, Good man Ned.

Considering the fact that apart from 1997, when ye were managed by a Donegal man, Cavan haven't won an Ulster title in 46 years, your definition of "Johnny Come Lately" stretches things a bit.

In that time Donegal have won 8 Ulster titles & an All Ireland.

Johnny come lately indeed.........

The Gaa was not big in Donegal until very recently. It was truly a poor mans soccer. BUt it is the big game now. I think Cavan would do well to scout over and see whats being done here, because yet again, their players are heading for the airport and it is barley july.

Of course they are beatable. Kerry, Dublin, Cork or Mayo would take them easily . They now believe their own hype. Remember over this last few years when they were felt to be unbeatable they have only won 1 All Ireland

So says your man from Down.......... What a load of crap your after posting....

The one thing you can't accuse this Donegal team off is complacency and believing their own hype, yes we have been beaten and yes we will be beaten again, probably very soon but it won't be because of arrogance, it will be because a better team has beat us........... But it's still lovely to be In the championship in early July and we are very happy with our 3 ulster titles and 1 All Ireland in the last 4 years.............

Hope you enjoyed the trip to Wexford

OF COURSE WE ARE BEATABLE BUT I DO NOT AGREE WITH YOU ON CORK/ Kerry /Dublin/Mayo taking us easily
In fact I think at our best we will cause them all problems and I thought Kerry were extremely lucky last year to beat us in the AI final
I think both Cork and Mayo might struggle with our 3/4/5 system around our own half From watch different teams play defensive done gals system operates best IMO
As regards believing our own hype , if that is the case it's done us no harm in Ulster I think it's now around 17 games and just one defeat and that to Monaghan
Since we began to dominate Ulster around 2011 no six county team have beat us ( not blowing my trumpet but FACTS) with a great footballing county like Tyrone failing on 4 occasions
In fairness to Tyrone they gave us almighty hard games, especially in the semi final of 2012 when Down fell apart in that year's final in the second half
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, lots of people here don't like Donegal but to me ( a follower of 50 odd years) this is the GREATEST DONEGAL TEAM EVER.
These crowd of boys have really pushed themselves , gave great commitment to the county, GAVE US SUPPORTERS THE TIMES OF OUR LIVES
The amount of stuff that's been written about this team ( good and bad) and I think they were a breath of fresh air to the GAA over the last five years
It don't matter whether we are beatable ( and this success won't last forever) andwhat they have achieved over the last4/5 years will always be appreciated by the whole county of Donegal
Two weeks today we go to Clones ,hopefully we will win( good luck to Monaghan if we don't) and some or most of our players will become the first group of Donegal players to win four Ulster championship medals plus if we win Micheal Murphy will have captained all of those teams So beatable or not a big day awaits us in Clones and we will worry about Monaghan first and then hopefully we can test ourselves against Kerry Cork Mayo Or Dublin or whoever else we could met But this is no bad Donegal team

I would love to see Donegal win the All-Ireland this year. But it's very hard to see past an extremely hungry and talented Dublin side who are eager to avenge last seasons disappointing end. But sure, we can live in hope!

Oh I forgot about the trip to Wexford
So that helps prove the point :::::: any team are beatable as a team playing in Div 4 next year beat a team ( who will have to play Cork , Kerry ,Mayo , Dublin , not to mention Donegal ) who will be playing Division one football
Our four defeats in the championship since 2011 came against Dublin , Mayo Monaghan and Kerry , all better teams on the day and all top class teams

Sure Donegal are unbeatable, no point in playing any further games and just hand them the Sam Maguire. I think I saw similar threads on Dublin and Kerry recently. Every team is beatable and even the great Kerry 4 in a row team got caught by Offaly. As regards the race for Sam, Dublin look the team to beat followed by Kerry, Donegal and Mayo just behind. Possibly Monaghan could make the jump but hard to see past those 4 teams.
