Teams who never beat a county in their province!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I believe Waterford have actually beaten Kerry in the Munster football championship. so Carlow v meath and Wicklow v Dublin are the only 2 left.

oh and by the way i remember Antrim beating Cavan two years in-a-row in ulster in the '80s i think.

As regards Donegal the following applies ::: we have beaten every team in the province, this year so far Tyrone Armagh Derry , last year Derry Antrim and Monaghan , year before Down plus Tyrone
We beat Cavan in 2011 but we never met Fermanagh but we did beat them a few years ago in the championship. Now for the other side,,,, Antrim beat us in 2009Armagh on numerous occasions in the oo s Tyrone hammered us one year around 2007 Cavan beat us down through the years as did Down and old old foe Monaghan ( the tide s turning there though) Derry and indeed Fermanagh beat us
So we have beaten every team in Ulster but every team in Ulster have beaten us and I'd say nearly every team in Ulster have won and lost against one another
What a competitive provience

SaffronDon Antrim wont get a chance these day to beat many Ulster teams as you get a bye to the final......which I think is a joke now that you are in the same tier as Derry

DoireCityFC - what is the ruling around that? Is it the case that we get a bye to the Final or is it that the reigning champions get a bye to the final. Thing is though, that even with getting a bye to the Final it means that the other teams have played competitive matches in the lead up to it while we are going in cold i.e. Down have played their games the last 2 weekends and have this weekend off before the Final on Sunday week whereas we haven't played a competitive match since Carlow beat us on the 24th May.

Personally I have no issues with Antrim going in at the early stages and maybe the Ulster GAA should review this now but I can understand why they kept us to the semis and then the final given some of the mis-matches that occurred when we did go in at the earlier rounds in the past.

You need to give every team the same chance. If this keeps up the only 2 ulster teams antrim will play each year in all comps is Derry and Down. that needs addressed......as does all hurling issues in ulster like turning down westmeaths admission and quotes like this are a joke

"The 2013 final was won by defending champions Antrim on February 2nd 2014 in Celtic Park, Derry"

Kerry have beaten ever county they have ever played in Championship football bar Down.

But as poster above asked, yes Wexford have beaten Kerry. They did so in 1915 final the first of their historic four in a row, after losing to Kerry in the 1914 final.

All five Munster counties have beaten Kerry. Famous examples being the Munster Semi Final in June 1957 when Waterford shocked Kerry to win 2-5 to 0-10.

The 1992 Munster Final in the Gaelic Grounds where Clare beat Kerry 2-10 to 0-12.

Tipp last beat Kerry in the 1928 Munster semi final.

I think its back in the 1890s the last time Limerick beat us.

Leitrim also beat us in 1993. They were bleak days fro Galway football even though it was one of the best or even best Leitrim team of all time. Unrelated but that what irked me about McHugh's comments the other night. Leitrim are as paasionate about their football as anyone in Mayo, Kerry, Galway etc.

Louth have never played Sligo, Clare, Armagh, Donegal, Down, Derry and Fermanagh in the Championship. Cavan (twice), Mayo (once) and Galway (once) all have one hundred per cent record against Louth. Louth has one hundred per cent record against Antrim (four games) and Waterford (twice). Every other county Louth beat at least once and that includes Kerry.

That's opening another can of worms altogether ollie!

You'd have to imagine louth will meet a few of those teams for the first time ever soon enough.

If you beat tipp can you draw any of them in the next round?

Slightly different topic but related. Are there many counties that have never met each other in competitive football. I mean in neither league or championship. I presume some of the habitual div 1 teams would never have encountered a div 4 team from outside their province

Jack that would be tasty enough alright. Down are another neighbour which Louth have never faced. It was only in 2002 that Louth first met Monaghan in the championship.

I think Derry have played every ulster team plus Cork (AI final) Dublin, Galway (Including a game in wembley), Kerry, Mayo, Offaly, Longford :(, Westmeath, Kildare, Carlow, Laois, Louth, Wexford, Meath, Sligo and tipp. That just the games i remember being at (galway in croker 2008)

Hard to find league records before 2008. We were in D3 and 4 so i would think we have played every team in the country

I can't see how Ulster have a championship and Connacht dont, all of the teams in Ulster are Christy Ring standard or lower which is the same here (outside of Galway).

Anyway back to the topic... have Westmeath ever beaten Dublin? have Laois beaten Kilkenny in hurling? have Westmeath beaten Offaly in hurling?

Westmeath beat the Dubs in 2004 in the quarter-finals of the Leinster championship. The same year they won their only Leinster title championship.

Just found this wee gem of a site. It should answer any queries on the hurling front anyway - will check to see if there is a similar for the Football. Have fun!
