Hyde park, great decision

If Connacht won't let final be held in Markiewicz, we sure as hell ain't giving another team home advantage

Now I look forward to our game in the last round of Qualifiers and Congrats Mayo on yer 5th Connacht title in a row...some achievment

Seems like some of ye Sligo lads are up with Kerry in the yerra stakes ;) Don't you worry, memories of '75, '97, '01, '07, 2010 and 2012 are fresh enough that most Mayo folk with a bit of cop won't take Sligo lightly. Not to mention the performance your lads put in on Saturday evening...

Funny that the Connacht Council ignored the health and safety concerns around the Hyde. Wouldn't be the first time our reservations were ignored by the powers that be, will just have to get on with it now.

Oops, forgot 2000 as well, heralded the end of that fine Mayo team of the mid 90s. Eamon O'Hara was in fine form that day.

The Hyde it is. A far sight better than traveling to Salthill again and a good venue for both teams. It's very unusual how a ground can go from being unsafe to being safe in such a short space of time though.

According to the Indo today Sligo wanted Pearce Stadium (and are not happy about this decision) but Connacht council went for Hyde park....I thought it was Sligo's choice ?

So is Dr. Hyde park eligible for Connacht finals again? It's all a bit confusing.

It just goes to show what anmitigated disaster Pearse stadium is in Salthill.. Well done Galway county board, ye spent millions on it and it will never be used again for a large championship game!!

Belclare1 - It is a long way off but the Galway outer by-pass is needed asap. Match day aside Galway traffic is cronic. It is easier get around Dublin.

Belclare1 - It will be used for Connacht Final for Galway v Ross/Mayo in alternative years when ye get to a Final, unlucky this year to be drawn same side as Mayo.

I like the stadium...it's just the traffic problems that's the real disaster and was always out of way for Sligo v Mayo

Well PDempsey, that doesnt make sense at all. Why would the Sligo County Board want it in Pearse Stadium, thus making it more difficult to get to for their home fans? Is there a big Sligo population living in Galway or is it that they're all in Dublin and so it would be an easy journey for them by motorway? Or maybe it is they think their team doesnt have much of a chance and so Galway would be a great weekend away for the craic? Id imagine most Sligo fans would be happier that it's in the Hyde since it is closer to them and far easier to access.

Health and Safety nanny state

Its just a football ground not a nuclear facility

Nuclear facilities probably have better toilets!

So it will be the Hyde which makes most sense to me. If it's a 20K sell-out then better still. It's a provincial final & I think that's a preferable scenario to 25K in a 40K stadium.

Gleebo i don't know if you have ever been to the ploughing championships or a festival where you might have 100k plus people in the middle of a field, the have temporary toilets as the will have in the hyde along with the toilets which are already there. The coonaught council say the will be a capacity of over 20k which will be big enough if you look back at 2012 final there was a crowd of 23k which included a very big support for Roscommon minors.

What's the difference between 20k in Roscommon and 18500 in Sligo, only 1500 people, Connacht Council argument doesn't hold up and is full of holes, anyway it's on in Roscommon and that's that

Seems as though the Connacht Council are expecting a smaller crowd and went with Hyde Park on that basis (and improvements made by the Roscommon County Board since the Slattery Report):

Incidentally, seems a bit harsh on Cairde Mhaigh Eo/ Mayo Season Ticket holders that they're not guaranteed a stand ticket.
