All Ireland Football Qualifier Draw

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Anduna, it's the order you come out of hat in your provincial draw, so in Ulster when drawing the first two pairings out of hat went on A side. The other two went to B side

Tyroneed that may well be the case.Clare are on the opposite side
the draw and Limerick have a B designation so I assume Clare
must be A????They are listed as A.

Ya Kingdomboy earlier on in the League you were looking at Cork and thinking maybe they might finally get their act together and push on to a final. But the arse has fallen out of them again it seems after that experience in the League final.

They are an enigma, was listening to Terrace Talk last night and Dinny Allen wasn't giving them much of a chance of beating us. You just don't know how to judge them. You can't really tell anything from the Clare game and sure every time they field a team its seems to bear no resemblance to the one that played the match before.

They could come at us all guns blazing and beat us, or they could collapse like they did last year. You have enough healthy respect for them to think they will put in a serious performance in 2 weeks time, and on their day they have the players to beat any team in Ireland. But for whatever reason they just can't seem to gel it all together on a consistent basis. They don't have a settled side and they don't seem to know what way they want to play football.

I'd be confident enough of a Kerry win, given our record in Killarney, but we just won't know where Cork are at until we see how they go in that game.

If they put up a good performance and still lose, they could go on and ambush Dublin but then again there as likely to be knocked out by Sligo or someone in the qualifiers!

Kerry/Cork ?All Ireland final would be some day out, but I won't be throwing any money on Cork to get there until I see what fist of things they make of it in Killarney....

The A & B idea in the qualifier draws works really well but because people don't understand the reasons why its used it comes in for regular criticism. Teams like Down, Cavan etc who have entered the qualifiers now know every weekend in which they will be playing even if they go to the All-Ireland final (barring replays) and can plan their club fixtures accordingly. As soon as Cavan were beaten by Monaghan they knew they would be playing this weekend due to being on the 'A' side.
As to how they are designated, Monaghan are in one side of the Ulster draw and Donegal the other, and they are simply called side A & B. In Leinster Dublin are in side A and Meath side B. Which side of the draw would be A or B was decided last October before the provincial draws were made so it is completely fair.

Wexford-Down 6.30pm throw-in. Bloody brilliant, us East Down supporters traveling down and up on the same day won't get home until the early hours of Sunday morning. Who on earth comes up with these ridiculous throw-in times??? Fuming!

Ya an enigma sums up cork to a tee, they have without a doubt some of the best footballers in Ireland but they have the wronge managers in charge. I gaurentee you if cork had Eamon fitzmaurice jack O'connor mickey Harte or Jim mcguinness or James horan in charge they'd win a hape of allirelands.

Surely the Saturday would have been better for the Limerick folk?

Wexford v Down 6.30pm. From Downpatrick it is 190 miles and a 4 hour journey. Potential for a drawn game means the match may not be over until 8.30pm approx. Could be well into Saturday night / Sunday morning before we get home. What is wrong with a bit of common sense prevailing here and starting match even at 4pm. There will not be a massive crowd from Down and surely there will be even less now.
Same applies to Limerick folk - why not a Saturday. However look at the time 4pm. Could Wexford and Down not be played at 4pm? GAA planners do not do common sense.

You're being optimistic with that time. It takes around 4 hours with absolutely no traffic, and probably over 5 hours on the way down with Saturday traffic on the roads. I still hope to make the trip down, but I know a few of my friends are now having second thoughts. A real shame really. 4pm would've been a perfect time for the throw-in for our loyal band of traveling supporters. But unfortunately the GAA authorities don't consider the wishes of the common GAA supporter.

A side is the side you want to be on. Any half decent side will be looking at the quarter finals. Unfortunately my own county are one of the many reasons you would want to be on this side as opposed to be seriously thinking about Croke Park later in the summer but for the like of Kildare they must be thinking they are in for a long summer despite having Dublin up next. Side B should be avoided like the Plague.

What province losers are on the a side and which on the b side or is it a open draw when you get to that stage

Apologies anduna I just saw your post and and question regarding B&B. I don't know anywhere personally to stay in Wexford town. Sometimes it's better to ring a hotel or Guesthouse directly rather than going through the booking sites. Alternatively you might find a B&B just outside the town. A taxi would cost €5 or €6. Hope that you find somewhere.

The provincial losers from Connacht and Munster are on meeting sides from group A in round 4A,while losers of Leinster and Ulster Finals will meet teams that get through to round 4 B.

If this weekends games go as expected then losers of the Derry/Donegal match have 75% percent chance of drawing an Ulster side with Armagh,Down and Tyrone possibly awaiting. Looks very likely that losers of Ulster Final will meet another ulster team in round 4B also!
