The line lost that game for Meath. They have great players, and are exciting to watch. Something needs to be addressed but probably wont be. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 29/06/2015 13:07:45 1744609 Link 0 |

The way better team lost this game lets be honest Meath played some outstanding football and just panicked when the finishing line was in sight , the black card on Reilly was a disgrace , actually I think it's time to get rid of the black card refs are getting it wrong all the time, it was great to see Westmeath win and what IT ment to there people but Meath should of won comfortably really. Pity Meath have Tyrone next it's probably too soon for them to get the win but if they got a handier draw and won with momentum I think they'd give anyone a game including The big 4. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 29/06/2015 13:49:43 1744653 Link 0 |

Well where do we start, first of all in the first 40-45 minutes we played some of the best football I've seen any Meath team play for a long time, we had pace, power, great movement and scoring and everything looked great but again I find our mental toughness let us down. I feel we did make substitutions/changes that were unnecessary and the loss of Graham Reilly to a black card was influential but most importantly I congratulate Westmeath, their mental resolve, belief and determination was greater than ours second half and once they got a run on us you could almost see the panic in our lads and the belief drain from them. I hope Westmeath produce a similar display in the final, and I do believe they have the potential to do so, and it looks as if they have the makings of a very good squad at the moment. For us it's Omagh and Tyrone, this mightn't be the draw from hell it looks, I don't believe Tyrone are anywhere near the team that beat us two years ago by a point so we could have a right chance if, and this is the big one, if our mental resolve can be recovered, if our belief can be sustained and if lads believe in themselves and their abilities. Whats happening in Meath football? sob (Meath) - Posts: 492 - 29/06/2015 15:55:51 1744805 Link 0 |
Clondalkin yes totally agree the black card for Reilly finished Meath, i looked up at clock saw how much time was gone and the score , i turned to my friend from Westmeath and said your about to make history, he told me to go away and said not a chance you will kick on, i said no , without biggy we have no leaders, unfortunately i was right. I was in favor of black card in beginning but after yesterday i have doubts. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 29/06/2015 16:34:20 1744851 Link 0 |

Hardluck Royaldunne. Even though your living in Westmeath I say you could not begrudge Westmeath this historic victory. I backed Westmeath myself yesterday as I seen them play ourselves and they racked up big enough scores against Louth and Wexford. Meath conceded a lot against Wicklow so I was quiely confident that Westmeath would win. Great match for the netural and def for Westmeath supporters. RD I am always amused at your postings on here and your infatuation with "Biggy". I have never subscribed to the notion that one man makes a team or you can build a team aroun one man. But I have to say that he was a massive loss after black card yesterday and you can be sure that if he ended up in the situation that both Newman and Harnan did yesterday the ball would have been put over the bar in both cases. A class act no doubt.. Greenwood (Meath) - Posts: 210 - 29/06/2015 16:56:43 1744880 Link 0 |
Ollie i don't begrudge them one bit, i know one of the lads very well and coached him at underage so i have nothing but delighted for them in their win. That been said i think we blew it big time. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 29/06/2015 17:06:57 1744893 Link 0 |
Greenwood, since all out in the open now. Ill admit i know him, i know a couple of other lads too but not as well as biggy. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 29/06/2015 17:11:03 1744904 Link 0 |
Immaturity cost Meath, simple as that! These inter-county players should know that if the other team have a "purple patch", whatever chance you have of keeping the scoreboard ticking over, you take it, Meath didn't do that. what should have been 2 points for Meath, ended up 2 for Westmeath, 4 point turnaround, lost the game by 4. xxB3B0Stunnahxx (USA) - Posts: 94 - 29/06/2015 17:16:04 1744916 Link 0 |

How can G Reillys black card have had such a detrimental effect on Meath?RD said he turned to a Westmeath person and said yere about to make history? But werent Meath not ahead by 3 or 4 points at that stage? How lacking in leaders,or brittle confidence in your county, would lead RD to say that while leading the game. This is worrying from a Meath perspective.Where is the old Meath confidence and arrogance gone.It seems even the supporters are not like the Meath fans of old. Those Meath fans always thought they had a chance.Even when behind in games with time running out.In saying that,Meath were abysmal in the second half.I cudnt believe my eyes how poor some of their decision making and skill levels were. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 29/06/2015 17:24:11 1744930 Link 0 |
There's no question we blew it royaldunne and that's not sour grapes or begrudgery it's practical analysis of the game. When a team is leading by 10 points at one stage and 9 I think it was with about 20 mins left and from there completely capitulate and get outscored 2-8 to 0-1 in a game they were more or less dominating, that's the very definition of throwing it away. But credit to Westmeath as well for not giving up and taking their chances when they arrived, their superior fitness was very apparent also.
