Is the Leinster football seeding over protective?

@ OLLIE - you are fully right. In my example above, Dublin v Kildare would be the game tomorrow. Sure that would we a cracker in some respects for the capital to start their championship with. As I say, it's fair enough to seed semi-finalists to earn a bye from the preliminary round, subsequently seeding them to avoid fellow semi-finalists in the quarter-final draw is a step too far.

All provinces have a preliminary round. In provinces with less than 8 counties, the preliminary round is the quarter-finals. It is 100% fair for teams to earn a by from the preliminary round on the field of play. The fairest way of doing that in a province of less than 8 counties is seeding finalists to get a bye. In provinces of more than 8 counties, the fairest way is seeding semi-finalist to receive a bye.

Yesterday would suggest Leinster need a more ring-fenced type seeding. Stretch the preliminary round over two rounds. Have losing semi-finalists seeded in the quarter-finals and finalists seeded in the semi-finals.

Leinster Round 1 - 6 counties (1 losing quarter-finalist from the previous year receiving a bye.)
Leinster Round 2 - 1 team receiving a bye and the 3 Round 1 winners
Leinster Quarter-finals - 2 losing semi-finalists of the previous year drawn against Round 2 winners.
Leinster Semi-finals - 2 finalists of the previous year drawn against quarter-final winners.
Leinster Final.
