Laois and. Kildare. A real full blooded rivalry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Happy to get out with the draw, after being 3 down with five to play and in general I was happy with our display, it was a far more balanced and consistent performance than a lot of what we experimented with in the league. I think it is still 50/50 as Laois are showing some good form, If we can get Niall Kelly & Tommy Moolick on the field for a bit longer the next day it would give us a better chance. Kildare look to have a more mobile and fluid team and hopefully that game will bring us on. One thing we have to improve is our discipline in the tackle as we gave away too many needless frees. Looking forward to another good game next week. Hoping for a win and believe it or not a game in Croke park against the Dubs is a more appealing fixture than a home game to Antrim and I am sure that the players look at it that way as well.

Does either team want to win the next day?

Leinster Semi v Dublin or handy qualifier v Antrim?

There won't be too many disappointed faces at the final whistle.

Typical Mayo man /bottler fearing to play against the Dubs.

We are made of sterner stuff than the softies in the WEST !

I would nearly give a tentative nod to Kildare for the replay if I was a betting man, they have a few more of their injured players to come back such as Niall Kelly, Moolick will probably start next weekend and should reduce the influence Brendan Quigley enjoyed at the start of the game.
On top of that I really couldn't understand our second half tactics last weekend. Playing with the wind you would have thought the obvious plan would be to ping the ball to Donie in or around the square. Physically he was dominating the Kildare backs so he would have good a good return as long as the type of ball in was of good quality. It would also prevent the clogging up of the midfield - KE half back line which would have allowed O'Loughlin to get a few more runs.
Have to say aswell very impressed with Ollie Lyons, didn't think he was as good as he was. Didn't give Ross a sniff.

Andy lad, we are on the verge of greatness here
Dublin are past it, relying on an ageing Alan brogan,
Bastick wouldnt make the laois junior team and a defence that does not know how to defend. .
There is not one county that has 3 better players than Kingston, Quigley and o loughlin

Andy
I was very impressed with Donie Kingston but like yourself I couldn't understand why he wasn't deployed in the full forward line in the second half.

We've beaten Dublin in the championship in the recent past, unlike yourselves. We've also defeated all of the main championship contenders (bar Kerry, and even then, they needed some breaks/ incompetent reffing to get by us) so we've no reason to fear anyone. Come to think of it, have Laois ever beaten Mayo in the championship?

YOur the man who got excited about a fair question. Hopefully ye beat Kildare and then Laois can do their talking on the pitch.
Hard to believe a Laois man can start a row about any sport. As for Cromwell? Was Laois known as Kings county or Queens county? Eitherway, anyone who had a bit of football in them was forced out by the planters.

fyi we are the Queens county.

Explain why ye have had the top players but can never win an Ireland despite having large leads going into crunch time ?

We only have three top players , a lienster is within our grasp this year, that's all

go back and "foot the turf" before its get to dry or the "bottle" of milk gets to warm (:)

I had a look again at Alan Smith's point and I think it went wide imo.

Sitting here in my office, I'll take your failure to answer the questions put to you as tacit admission that Laois haven't ever beaten Mayo in the championship.

Now that that's been established, Mayo haven't won an All-Ireland recently because they haven't been good enough. Simple as. When Laois make it on to that particular roll of honour at senior level, or even make an All-Ireland semi-final, then we'll talk.

PS: Several of our current senior panel have All-Ireland medals, albeit at U-21 level.

School is obviously out. Do your parents know your playing with the computer? There should be a Cul camp on near by. Get out and get some air on a fine day like that.

Aido.

If the winners go on to lose v Dublin, and the losers go on to beat Antrim ( both very likely) , then it's a 1 in 4 chance, laois and kildare will play again.

If you pause the video at 3 seconds and drag the cursor along you can see it clearly goes over the bar

It would be nice to see a few more Kildare & Laois fans make the journey down to Tullamore tomorrow night! there was a disappointing crowd there last week. Alan Smith also made such a comment on twitter
