Laois and. Kildare. A real full blooded rivalry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Laois tend to produce better scoring forwards than kildare so likely to shade it this time.

When exactly have Laois produced better forwards than Kildare?
If you were produce a combined team of the two counties they'd dominate the half-back line and midfield but the forwards? I don't think so. Just because cliches are endlessly repeated it doesn't necessarily make them true.

no forward from Kildare could lace Ross Munnelly's boots to be honest. Certainly not since Johnny Doyle hung them up.

Did Kildare not hammer Cavan in their own back yard in the league and I think put 15 odd points on them in their last championship game? The reality of Ulster is they have one genuine All Ireland Contender, Connaught have 1, Leinster have 1 and Munster have 2. To be fair to Leinster football it is more entertaining to watch.

Donie Kingston and Munnelly are tow of the best forwards in Leinster but Niall Kelly and Alan Smith are decent players aswell...

Still see Kildare as strong favourites but you never know in a local derby

Naysayer . Not so sure theyd be that out of depth, Louth, Leitrim, Armagh down Derry etc, say on the day those games could go either way.
But that's not what we are discussing, just as a matter of interest what group does loosing Leinster finalist enter??? Not that im expecting it or anything :)

sportsfan14 what have you been smoking? I agree that there are a limited number of genuine All Ireland contenders but I am not sure how you include Cork (or is it Tipperary or Limerick or even Clare you meant) as a contender from Munster when you are giving the other provinces one apiece. If Cork are included the you have widened the boundary a little to let a few more teams in.

For me it is Dublin again this year - they are the strongest squad by a distance and they did not win it last year so they will be back for it this year. I would like to see Mayo win as like many I have a soft spot for them but I fear they are going the wrong way, Kerry I think will be too big an ask to win it twice in a row with the squad they are operating with though they do have previous while Donegal will probably do like they did two years ago and come a cropper around the quarter-final stage as they run out of legs. Monaghan for me are at or past their peak which is not high enough.

Can you not just create a thread about Laois and Kildare on its own merits without framing it as a dig at Ulster? It's a pathetically childish mindset and only suggests you don't actually believe your own guff.

It's in Tullamore. I know it's hard for the Dubs to believe but we haven't played a Leinster Championship match in Kildare since 1996.

"a dig at Ulster?" Ha, sure you're the one who came on here to say "Leinster is a joke of province". What do you expect??

I suppose its beneath you to bother looking it up somewhere. The game is in Tullamore, a neutral venue. When was the last time you guys had to play a Leinster game in one of those?
3 of the provincial winners are probably known at this stage with Mayo having a tougher time this year to come through. The rest of the counties will do their best to win a few games before heading for the qualifiers. Thats the reality of football at the moment but I suppose it's better than the era when only Kerry could win the AI.

I'll be watching it on Sky but Why is this on the same time as the champions league final.

I am not suggesting the GAA should move all their matches around to suit other big events but would it have made any difference if the match was on at 5pm or 6pm. There would ne no negatives having the games at those times. Some casual fans probably won't bother going to the match now.

Offaly played Wexford in a similar fixture a few years ago and the Lesinter Council/Offaly County Board made the sensible decision not to have the game clashing with the champions league final.

Can't see that anywhere and Ulster is mentioned in the first line of the opening post so go figure.

That's some complex you have there brefni.
Firstly i said after all the hype of ulster games so far, this is a real dogfight.
There was no slight on ulster merely pointing out the bitterness that this fixture holds for the respective fans.
Now i get in Cavan that you may not understand this, but in Leinster there is serious derbies that go further than how they will actually get on in championship, ill give you a prime example one of the Westmeath team that won Leinster told me he would hand back his Leinster medal (the only time they have ever won it) if he could go back and make dessies free go over the bar against Meath. That is saying that beating Meath meant more to him than winning Leinster. There is very little chance of either Laois or Kildare beating dubs. But the thought of loosing to the other is more than most could take b
So my post was to put this into context. Hope that clears it up and helps restore security

Sorry my first post might be a bit confusing, what I'm trying to say is that there is no point in coming on here and saying "Leinster is a joke of a province" then saying the thread is aimed at Ulster...
