Cake on The Sunday Game

His comments towards London were a disgrace, thousands have got great joy out of days in Ruislip with London including loads from his county of Roscommon , his comments have gone down like a lead ballon amongst the huge Irish Community in London & Britan generally.
Shane Curran no friend of Irish Emigrants!!

I though his analysis was very poor. He didnt even know any of the Clare/Limerick footballers when analyising game. At least Ciaran Whelan done a bit of research on game

It was absolutely pathetic. Some of the examples I picked out below:

"The forward takes on his man and puts it over the bar."

"Number 22 cuts inside, over the bar."

"Poor decision making by the number 14."

If you're asked to analyse a game, you can get away with using that kind of phrase maybe once. To display a complete lack of knowledge throughout is just ignorant. Curran was a great player and a fantastic character in the GAA, but this clearly isn't his bag, as seen by his complete dismissal of London which was uncalled for. I'd hope he isn't called back again.

What good would taking London out of Connacht be anyway? We only have 7 teams (inc. NY and London). London are just as good as the rest anyway, only 2 years ago they were in the final after beating Sligo and London, the Rossies weren't in a final for 5 years now...

was he even that good a keeper.....or was it all "look at him the mad fecker" more than anything else?

would never have classed him in the top class keepers

Ah he was good to be fair, didn't he famously save a penalty and then kick the winning 45 in the space of 90 seconds for Roscommon in a Connacht championship match before? I'm sketchy on the exact details, but I'm certain those are the basic facts. If a certain Dublin fellow did that, there'd be songs and novellas written!

As an aside, the original regular 45 taking keeper, Limerick's Brian Scanlon was in fine form with the boot against Clare, 0-3 in total. Rather than praise him for his marksmanship, it was used as a stick to beat Limerick with that their keeper had to take their frees for them. You can never win sometimes!

Bob...if St Kierans free taker and limerck goal keeper Seamy O'Donnell had been given the job in the 2003 Munster final in the GG, Limerick would have won a Munster title!
But Kerins inexplicably allowed Eoin Keating drop 3 late kicks into the hands of Kerrymen in front of the city terrace

and look at limerick football now :(

ps - are u seriously comparing cake and cluxton?

Jesus lads I'm not a fan as a pundit but he was a excellent keeper that can't be taken away.
He would have been better off going on acting the maggot said everything was good and positive in football he wasn't anything new that was his biggest let down.
As for putting down London saying there wasting there time in the championship did when an not imply the same with Carlow the week before with less force of course.
As for questioning what he won between the 3 of them there wasn't a all Ireland medal at least he had a all Ireland club
Lads in kerry pubs were probably sitting amongst lads with any amount of medals laughing themselves stupid at the 3 of them

I couldnt stop laughing at tele when he said that. Id say he want to do his homework the next time. I'd think he was only dismissing London to make a name for himself. He wont be on the tele again. What do lads think of Ciaran Whelan? His research is good and seems to know about the small teams. Some pundits only know 1/2 players for the small counties

I'm not comparing. I'm just saying that if Cluxton were to produce that 1-2 knockout moment that Curran did, it would be seen as a brilliant performance. As such, I think it's only fair to acknowledge Curran for it, as it was a marvellous moment.

Ros1 agree with your taking Fabio to task over that stupid comment..well said.
Shane Curran. he made me very uneasy ... not good telly. what the Sunday game needs is a professional journalist who actually knows the GAA , it's teams etc. not some "character" who they believe will be entertaining and controversial. We are all sick to the back teeth of Brolly. now this joker comes along. (hopefully for one night only. this business of triangles is an absolute joke. you could take any three players on the pitch and draw lines between then and say "hey look, triangles".

Did he actually genuinely believe that Malachy O'R has Monaghan set up to operate in Triangles at various sections of the game....??
That the boys were actually going through their isoceles and their pythagoras with a mad Cavan man running at them full tilt.........

GET OFF THE STAGE "CAKE" !

Maybe the Sunday Game thought it was time for a different angle on things and cake "Compass"curran duly obliged!Youd need an A in honours maths to know what he was talking about.

He was probably just following the example of Spillane and Brolly, in other words say something controversial in order to give yourself a chance at a regular gig. His comment makes zero sense, especially when Roscommon only won by 7 points. In 2013 London were in a provincial final, and in 2011 took Mayo to extra time, so its not as though they aren't competitive.

You're right Ros1 about that stupid generalisation made by Fabio, makes no sense at all.
As for Cake , I'd say he must have some connections in RTE as he's been on quiet a bit and can't fathom where the logic of that comes from either.

He didn't cut it for me either. No real analysis and seemed to just use the time as a personal soap box with his strange views on the connacht championship.

Remembered this thread from a while back.

last night really took the biscuit altogether, we have gone from vertical balls and Monaghan studying triangles to ostriches, Fianna Fáil and the Catholic Church!
