Sledging has been going on for years

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

To add to that the Irish Times Gavin Cummiskey reports the squaring up before half-time as 'Always Tyrone. Such a shame when you see the quality of footballer at their disposal.'

Not much wonder folk are so quick to jump on the bandwagon with this sort of reporting. I suggest people watch the incident develop themselves and see what players were involved and the clear verbals being dished out and then decide which party were the initiators.

Saw the John Mullane Laochra Gael episode there recently and sledging is acknowledged in that. So not only has it been a tactic for many years, it also exists in the righteous sporting haven of Munster Hurling.

Sledging has been around in the munster hurling championship since the 1930s and before. Mick Mackey and that legendary Limerick hurling team were famous for it. It wasn't a big deal then. It's not a big deal now.

Agree BanTarleton but I am simply pointing out that Tipp fotballers appear as good at it as anyone despite their recent protests.

Cummiskey has never been able to hide his hatred for Tyrone. His disgraceful article aimed at a group of young lads after the 2013 AI minor final was as disgusting a piece of sporting journalism as I've ever read.

shields got a lot of stick for diving and righly so but look at Paul Geaney when he scores goal roaring into Shields. Hope Sunday game looks at this? If a Donegal or Tyrone player done this they would be condemned

He was condemned on the sunday game last night..happy now??

Naysayer and Thomas Clarke, Cummiskey's a rugby man but he always gets Tyrone matches since that Minor final report in 2013, probably because it wound Tyrone fans up and got him noticed.

WildPundit nothing to get over excited about - bit of clear verbal baiting but not a wild lot apart from the U21 context.

A mate of mine plays club football with a starting member of the Tyrone team. According to him the Tyrone player said that he was on the end of dogs abuse from the Tipp players. Where are all those who were giving out after the u21 final or the first game of this years championship?

Whatever happened between Tyrone and Tipp this year is water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned, not prepared to provide any more fodder for the papers or some of the posters on HS.

I agree that U.21 final is water under the bridge and glad it is. Thought I had missed something from Saturdays game!!!

To be honest WildPundit, I haven't heard a thing from the Tyrone camp so nothing to see here.

That is the point I am making brend - these things are a much bigger deal when the finger is pointed at Tyrone. I understand your lack of interest and indeed would expect that from the Tyrone camp but I did feel the need to flag the clear verbals they were on the receiving end of given the miles it got after the U21 final. For the record I am not offended by the like and have seen it for many years but what I am moreso seeing here is double standards.

Its water off a ducks back by this stage Naysayer, sticks and stones and all of that!

spot on naysayer. verbals goes on in every sport. The way tipp acted after the u21 final would make you think they were angels. They weren't and they weren't on Saturday either considering they engaged in the same tactics that they had criticised after the u21 final. I have no issue with it but those who were appalled by Tyrone in the u21 final and against Donegal have gone very quiet all of a sudden.

If Tipp lads were sledging then I condone that but if it was just a few verbals to perhaps Tipp show Tyrone we weren't afraid of them that I am fine with that.
Tyrone I am sure have heard far worse up North in the Championship than down South against the likes of Tipp.

Every game has a few verbals when lads get a bit excited but sledging has no place. You must remember after the U.21 Final that Tipp were told to man up and take hard hits along with the odd verbals which fly around. We are no saints either but which team are ?

So because a few Tipp lads fire verbals at Tyrone lads we should all cry foul and say hey poor Tyrone are being picked on??? There are people who would start an argument over one silly tackle a Tyrone player made in a game to have a go at them and I agree with you there but the same people would probably start a fight with 2 spiders running up a wall.

These Tyrone boys are hardy men and will come across a lot worse before the Championship ends.People are starting to sit up and take notice of what Tyrone are back doing and that's playing good hard football. I for one wish them luck and hope they have a big say in the destination of Sam yet.

Not trying to start an argument as I get the overall positive tone of your post but why would you automatically presume the above to be true?

Wildpundit whats the difference between what the u21s were saying and what the seniors were saying? I've heard from a reliable source that tyrone received dogs abuse from the tipp lads on saturday.

That's only my assumption given that a lot of the Northern Teams are strong. You know as well as I verbals are thrown in every match and the Northern teams would meet Tyrone more regularly than Tipp bear in mind we only met the first time in any grade this year. I for one have no beef with Tyrone. I can only assume if you look at for example Cork v Kerry when teams meet very often on a regular basis they are not going to play a game of football for fun.Over the years Tyrone were the force in Ulster and came up against the likes of Armagh , Derry , Down & Donegal and I'm sure they got worse treatment from them over the years than they did against Tipp on Saturday. That was my point really.

Really gotmilk??Explain by what you mean dogs abuse??? Personal abuse as in family related or just the aul abuse which is associated with probably every inter-county match played in Ireland in this day and age.

Sledging is totally different remember that and something which all of us condone.
