Minor player taunted over dad's death

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It looks like this is going to get very messy now. The official Tyrone statement on that website is interesting, stating "Tyrone GAA in no way condone 'sledging' and the managers and coaches of all our county teams, from Acadamh Thir Eoghain to Senior, actively discourage this practice." A few of the seniors on Sunday will have received a right rollicking from Mickey Harte then I presume.

Navynblue i know of one opposition player against Kildare who was been taunted about his work situation at the time , his answer was to take him on a jaunt around croke park while putting over point after point, and team winning easy. When he was going off he said to him well now your unemployed for the summer, :).
But that was senior level.
I am not going to discuss this particular incident as it involves for all intents and purposes children (u18) we all did stupid stuff as a child, however i am sick that this would be allowed to happen, monkey see monkey do. I find sledging a low form of gamesmanship and one that needs yo be eradicated, that is all i will say on this particular unsavory incident.

for the record im not saying the minor player did or did not do what has been said here
the point im making is its definatly a team tactic with tyrone through the years to verbaly insult forwards off the other team

Best to introduce a code of conduct, lecture county managers and officials on team behaviour and move on. You are never going to prove or disprove something like this but if anything good comes out of it, it may be that players watch their lip, referees become more aware of the verbals and county boards become more provactive re advising their members on conduct.

Time to drop this and get on to the important business of championship competition. Dragging this out will just give the prophets of doom on TSG more mud to sling at the sport that brought them fame.

The Tyrone senior manager, a man of very high profile within the organisation, needs to come out and condemn this type of disgraceful carry-on which has tainted the name of Tyrone football for far too long.

But here's the thing lads...........we know and accept that on any given day a Tyrone player will get into a bit of slagging. You guys are castigating our county team as if your guys are saints that don't do any of these things! That's the nonsense if it all. It's laughable were it all not so sinister.

This is a new low for Tyrone, and that's saying something. Can't get lower than that. The bigger man always triumphs.

An awful lot of stuff being posted on here over and above the thread subject in relation to Tyrone as if it were fact - I urge caution - opinion, hearsay, prejudice etc in any combination or order do not amount to proven fact.

No he does not. Unless every county manager in the country wants to voluntarily release a statement signed by them all. People who know Mickey Harte know that he is a decent man and would not condone such things being said. If a player mouths of its more to do with his own upbringing and personal outlook than any influence of his team manager. If you want to know the type of player Mickey Harte loves and respects then just listen to anything he ever said about Cormac Mc Anallen.

So because Tyrone County Board have said it didn't happen, then it didn't happen? Okay then...

Would be good to see a joint statement from the 2 county boards. Either the original allegation is correct in which case there should be punishment and some plan of action to stop it in future or it was incorrect in which case there should be a public retraction.

Tyrone have officially denied it now so it's up to Donegal to put up the evidence. Name some names, otherwise surely a charge of bringing the game into disrepute should be heading their way.

I'm finding it hard to digest the huge amount of anti-Tyrone posts/threads on hoganstand over the last few months. Did they put that many noses out of joint in the 00s with their style. Sure, not the most pleasant team ever, but by no means the worst. Winners tend to be abrasive. Not too many ex-players who played against them in those days saying too much though which is a story in itself.

Posters from other counties should look to their own first. There is a lot of unpleasantness on the field.

A new low? Nothing has been proven.

Donegal are no saints on the verbal front and I personally thought the media campaign/witch-hunt got up by Donegal/McGuinness about Stephen Gollogly after his fair collision with McHugh in 2013 tasteless in the extreme.

Tyrone are denying it. Frankly, I don't believe them. As Colm Parkinson said on "off the ball", the kind of person who would do this type of sledging, is probably the type of person who would bareface deny it.

It makes a future Tyrone v Donegal game interesting!!!

But all remarks aside, this can and should be handled better

It is shocking to say the least, but it does not surprise me to much, when you go to some underage games at club level and hear some of the stuff that is been shouted from the sideline by parents of players and supporters and in particular some mothers(sorry ladies) , i have been around the country at quite a lot of games and after 20 years of listening to this i can see why it is still there, it has not been dealt with and is accepted, the refs at underage club games are just local guys doing this job for the love of the game and cannot sometimes deal with these people, how can they handle these kind of supporters, they feel they are on there own, it is easier to just ignore it. Then to listen to parents after games hanging around outside dressing room doors throwing abuse at other supporters and defending their little Johnny as if he is a little saint when he actually needs a kick up the arse. All of this spreads to players and is bred into them that this is acceptable. Parents and supporters have a duty to teach their kids respect and understand sportmanship. I have been in dressing as a selector and manager at club level and we have been pumping up our players to win at all cost, we are all responsible for this cancer as explayers, parents and managers. I remember an All-Ireland Final back in 96, and a player of one of the teams managed by a very prominent manager said something to a player which was very similar to the alleged incident recently and something i will never forget, WIN AT ALL COST, and it actually worked for them
Lets protect our games and our kids
