Wasn't there a famous incident during a Tipp / Galway hurling match in the late 80s ?? It's been going on for decades ; I personally think that being in family situations is disgusting . I think so much of it goes on now that it doesn't even get reported . We had much excellent footballers in the early 00s however , apparently we were ' too soft ' for Armagh and Tyrone . I always wondered was was meant whey they referred to us as ' mentally weak ' .

This is too serious of an issue for you to try and use as an excuse for that particular Donegal team to being unable to get over the line on the big days. Mental strength is about a lot more than blocking out someone whispering in your ear. Your right it has been going on for decades, especially at inter county and university level. We possibly actually hear more about it now through forums like this. It's not going to be possible to eradicate all verbals from the game, however instances like this are way over the acceptable mark. I once had an underage manager who dropped a player cause he seen him spit at an opponent in a previous match, this is possibly the type of approach that will be required.....but would it happen at county level in any county, probably not.

its not my fault you cannot read or get the point im making
I KNOW IT WENT ON INDIVIDUALY
but they created a culture of it being a team tactic from then is what im trying to help you understand

Oh climb down from Mount Pious. You had lads on your own team in that period who were very quick with their tongues. As a couple of posters have alluded to, if true, what was allegedly said to Peter Harte by one of your players during the 2011 championship match, 5 months after his cousin was murdered on honeymoon, would be every bit as disgusting as what was allegedly said in the minor match last Sunday.

Personal abuse is a problem everywhere and, while it has been around for ages, it does seem to be getting worse. From family deaths to threats of rape on sisters/girlfriends, there seems to be no depths to which some players will stoop. We moan about blanket defences and too many handpasses, yet the real problem with our games is the win at any cost mentality. A lad gets a suspension, and the first thing that most clubs/counties will do is to look for a loophole to get him off. It's time that clubs. counties, officials, mentors and players all remembered that they are engaging in sport, not war.

It is hard to blame this lad alone. As I said on the other thread its about the values that you are brought up with. My boys also play a lot of soccer and I have told them if I ever see them playacting or complaining to the referee I will walk on the field and pull them off it. The values of sportsmanship are being lost not because of over zealous coaches but because parents no longer care.

So tell us, how many players need to indulge in this before it becomes a team tactic? Or has there been drills devised to help teams implement this tactic?

Some Tyrone lads really just cant own up to things at all

I know all about scum element's attaching themselves to the Dublin support

I can freely admit it....

I think the denial coming out of Tyrone speaks volumes at times...

Such a pity because it lets down the true Tyrone supporters who'd I'd hold in the highest of regards

As a Dub.. it's not easy getting the digs but sometimes they are rightly deserved.

Absolutely disgusted to hear of this incident ... but not all that surprised in some respects. In underage GAA coaching there is not much emphasis put on respect for opponents, officials etc. We have lost ground to Rugby who dont seem to tolerate any such nonsense. Of course the majority of kids dont engage in this sledging but I can see it becoming more and more common with the 'win or die' philosophy being engrained. There is more to our games than win at all cost, standards of ordinary human decency should be enforced at underage to begin with.

And many many times the digs are not deserved Jimbo. Disgraceful behavior being directed towards our county in recent weeks.

Sure lets wait and see Liam. If it did happen it's not right. It never would be condoned by any decent person.Theres something not quite right here though. I'd prefer to wait and see.

Liam you have little to be at. Did a tyrone woman turn you down.

You have started ANOTHER thread about tyrone on some unfounded rumour. I hope when donegal come out and say this did not happen you will hold your hand up and start a thread apologising

The gist of the story on Tyrones "Teamtalk" website has the allegation being denied by a donegal official Liam, not a Tyrone official. Obviously the 2 county's have been in touch about this matter and if a Donegal official is flat out denying that something like this was said then Mr Bonner or somebody who whispered in his ear has some explaining to do. But like I said let's wait and see.

Tyrone need to get grip on themselves. I remember cavan winning their first ulster u21 against tyrone. The abuse tyrone ones were throwing at cavan players. It was embarrassing for them. The sooner tyrone back to division 4 football the better. Those all Ireland's went to their heads!!!
